    1. Try making the transition with AI off and only your PC selected. (This worked for some people.)

    2. Have you tried using the console to bypass the problem?
Using the console is cheating, I know, but I think that it's ok to use it since you are simply trying to fix a bug, and the other option is reinstalling the game.
If you want to give it a try:
    - open console (with ~ button, in my case at least)
    - type: DebugMode 1
    - type: rs gr_dm
    - try making the NPC (that will appear) teleport your party to Merchant Quarter
-when you are finished dont forget to type DebugMode 0

If the dungeon master NPC thing doesn't work, use the console to summon the world map, the command being:
    rs ka_worldmap_open("Highcliff","") (for example)
Maybe you can select Merchant Quarter from there, since your world map should be updated with the quest entry.

Maybe you already know all this and have tried it, but if not, I hope it helps.

P.S. I've never used the dm NPC to teleport, but I'm assuming that Merchant Quarter is what you should type. I would have tried it out, but my NWN2 is currently uninstalled.

Going to try these tips, might even try the teleport one although I wonder where I can find more precise descriptions. :)

The dm NPC thing works through a normal dialogue, like any other NPC in the game (you click on him to start it). It's quite user friendly really.

I tried googling the precise area tag for Merchant Quarter, but I wasn't successful. :o Sorry, this is the best I could do.

Info on console cheats is pretty easy to find, just google it.
I'm no expert on console, but I'll help you anyway I can. :)

Wee! I got into the merchant district. Tried the bit about having the PC selected and going alone and it worked. Fixed my business in there and went back to the dock district, worked fine but when I was going into the back alley, crash. Oh my, what is wrong with this game. :( Guess I will have to live with the game crashing half the time I am trying to do area transitions, feels just great.

you have to have your PC selected every time you make a transition, because almost every new area opens up with a cutscene, and in some cases it can lead to weird bugs (cutscenes not working properly)

second, if the game crashes during transition, restart the game and usually it works after that, apparently it's just a memory leak or something like that
sometimes i had to restart multiple times to enter certain areas without a crash, but the bug usually occurs only, when you enter the area for the first time, after that it's cached in the game files and shouldn't crash anymore

Cleared out the warehouse but I am suffering from a severe lack of firepower. Khelgar is the only one dishing out any physical damage. Neeshka is worthless and the druid and my PC are out of spells after two fight. I have done the Neeshka quest I think, stole that item from her old companion, is there more you can do with her? Despite really liking her as a character this like most CRPGs is a lot about combat and a solo class rogue just isnt carrying its own weight. Probably going to go with Qara until something more interestng shows up, lots of arcane firepower oh yeah.

buff everyone with stoneskin, then everytime you see an enemy group, send a fireball their way or try a confusion type spell, then let khelgar hold the front line and neeshka flank enemies for sneak attacks (attack confused enemies last)

have the druid centered so that you can hit as much enemies as possible with call lightning, and your sorc should just use whatever he can

but early on you can't really expect to have a fat spellbook, so you just have to rest often

    you'll be good

edit: neeshka is useful for quests inside the city, but once they send you for quests outside the city, take qara instead

If you mean the lucky coin, than you still haven't completed her quest.
(SPOILER: You'll have to fight the guy, and do the Collector's Mansion too)

Neeshka's racial spell, Darkness, is also useful for pulling your weaker party members to safety. Besides, it gives her a tactical advantage, too. :) While it lasts, she has no problem holding her ground. However, it doesn't work on all enemies, and you should keep Khelgar out of it, too (obviously).

Personally, I prefer Neeshka over Qara. The brat sorceress runs out of spells just as quickly as your other spellcasters, and then she's pretty much useless (in my opinion). With good gear, Neeshka at least does some damage while she's there.

Not to mention that Neeshka is far more fun to have around (IMO).

yeah neeshka is fun for around 3/4 of chapter 1, but after that it's like script designers totally left her behind, not to mention she's useless against undead and similar things

qara starts rather weak, but as she improves in levels, she becomes one of the most powerful characters in the game, and i thought her retarded comments were sometimes actually funny, particularly in some pre-battle cutscenes
too bad you can't romance her, i'm sure romancing the spoiled brat (no idea how old she actually is anyway) would involve such things as earthquakes, burned stables and flying cows. MOOOOOOH!

Neeshka's pretty gun for me, just needs more micromanagement than most. Needs barkskin, bull's strength and stoneskin as a minimum. Dump points in use magical device and she'll be able to use almost anything in the game pretty much. She uses a mace of disruption for undead.

Neeshka has been decent in combat lately, found a dagger that bestowed the two weapon fighting feat and gave it to her so now she dual wields rapier and dagger and I am getting better at positioning for sneak attacks.

I am a bit worried about the balance in this game, the thugs in the warehouse and the following quest were damn tough while the orcs I am fighting now fall over like sacks of manure.

I met that gnome, disliked him immediately but will he make his way to the inn or is he lost forever if I didnt take him into my party? When we are already talking about NPCs when will I be able to have Sand in my party? Intrigued by the idea of an almost all arcane party. Would give some hefty fire power.

The amount of gear or rather the lack of gear is starting to worry me, I see all of you talking about crafting and stuff but all I find is normal molds and generally rather crappy stuff. Poor Khelgar has been wielding a sword since forever and it just seems wrong. When will I find a proper axe or hammer for him? I know I shouldnt ask for too many spoilers but I have some ideas about a next character and it would be a purely melee oriented fighter/frenzied berserker using a warmace but I do not want to build a character for a weapon where there is no good one in game. Is there a decent choice of all weapons or is it like mos toher games where there are one or two really good weapons and you should aim for those?

Grobnar (the gnome) should go to the inn, no problem.

SPOILER: You'll get Sand at the start of Act II ( I love that elf.)

You can purchase a dwarven war axe +1 for Khelgar pretty soon, but a hammer to fit him is in Act III, I'm afraid. ;)

As for weapons, if memory serves me, the selection isn't really big. Just a few memorable ones, at least for me. However, joacqin, it's been a while since I last played, so you might want to take someone else's advice on this. ( Especially if they disagree.) :)

There are lots of good weapons, many of which you can buy, BUT in almost all cases you can craft a better weapon once you find the recipes and are high enough level to cast the enchantments. It is the gem ingredients in the OC that are the most rare, so use the ones you find/buy wisely. The crafting changes in MotB.

the game tends to get easier as you go, since your characters get more equipment and more firepower each level, and enemies just don't improve that much really

i recommend you take him into the party and dump him back to the flagon just to be sure, he is not very useful for a character but he is still useful for other things like crafting, ehchanting and golem upgrades (later)

you get sand at the beginning of chapter 2, but there is two problems with him, first one he doesn't like qara, so you'll have a hard time with influence, and second he is specialist in transmutation magic, which sucks
he is the best or second best enchanter in the game however, right up there with elanee, but you don't need to have him in the party for that

stuff you buy in shops should be sufficient, however you really should go into crafting and enchanting, otherwise you just miss out on a really big and fun part of the game
however note that you can't really craft the best items until you reach chapter 2, that's when the good components start to appear

give khelgar all proficiencies in hammers!

Not if you have a decent charisma score. I used a Cleric and she had 16 CH and I plowed through the undead sections like a hot knife through swiss cheese.

TU it works on the weakest undead like maybe the first undead dungeon, but that's it, as soon as you hit strong undead of chapters 2 and 3, it's useless, it can't even rebuke (stun) them, it's that weak (although i've heard it's actually a bug with stun not working properly)

the only good thing about TU is the fact that it can be used for things like divine shield etc

Starting to sketch on a second character, a melee based two-handed weapon swinging fighter. I still do not know what focuses I should aim for. What are the be all and end all weapons in hte game? The celestial fury/Carsomyr/Crom Feyr of NWN2? I really would like to go Warmace route because they are plain cool and I plan to play one of those earth elemental outsiders so I want a crushing weapon for RP reasons. If there are no good warmaces out there or I would find myself using some greatsword or axe instead simply because they are that much better I would want to know before I invest any feats.

As I mentioned, you can craft weapons better than almost any weapon you find or buy. If you want to use a warmace for RP reasons, go for it and create the weapon that suits you best. Just make sure Elanee gets the feat to enchant weapons and armor, and always look for the exotic gems at every merchant you come across. I also always had Neeshka along for her alchemy skills in turning monster parts into essences, but that could be a part time job for her if you don't like her.

I had a golfbag full of greatswords for my Ranger, and one full of Dwarven waraxes for my Dwarf fighter/weaponmaster. I even made sweet armor and shield for the Dwarf.

Oh my, the game has bugged out again. Ahja the Azure the wizard at the Sea Ghost refuses to die, I got him to near death then he turned blue and there is nothing I can do. I have a previous save that isnt too far ahead but I thought I could check here first if I did anything wrong? Maybe I killed him too fast? This happened to anyone else? Ah, this is a bug I can almost understand, gives me sweet memories of the old infinity engine games.

As for crafting I havent really gotten into it yet, my skill points got a bit messed up and I havent found any molds yet. Is it actual crafting or enchanting you are talking about? Going to check the walkthrough and see if it is covered.

I have heard of bugs when your protagonist is not the selected character when a cutscene is supposed to fire, so if you're not sure of that, I'd try the fight again and make sure that your character is selected before he (she?) dies.

I am talking about both crafting and enchanting together. IIRC (and it's been a while) Khelgar gets skill points in weapon crafting. You should be able to get a few molds, metal ingots, wood planks and a crafting hammer for free in that fort where you save Neeshka. Other than that, you just have to find merchants that sell molds. For enchanting recipes, you just need to be on the lookout for books that contain them (or find the recipes outside the game; I'm sure they're listed here on SP someplace).
