Most probably a bug, but I think it's due to an engine limitation. The engine allows a weapon to have multiple to hit and damage modifiers, but i can only have one modifier for enchantment (to determine who and what it can hit). I suppose BioWare decided to make the weapon more powerful than it should be rather than less.

It's probably just lazyness. The Fixpack fixes this (and the tweakpack for those who don't use the fixpack).

Well from searching on the subject, it looks like Ziad is right.

It looks like it is a programming/engine limitation.

And it looks like the Fixpack and Tweakpack sets the higher bonus as default enchantment level, from what I can read of the Readme files.

I know for a certain that Daystar in a vanilla game is treated like a +2 weapon, and therefore no good against Kangaxx.

The Fixpack and Tweakpack seems to set Daystar to +4.

Baldurdash doesn't. And according to the buglist, it is because there was doubt if Bioware intended it as a +2 or a +4 weapon, since few +4 weapons are available early in the game.

Searching further it looks like people have heavily discussed in several fora if Daystar should be treated as a +2 or +4 weapon, and if it should be fixed.

And IIRC Azuredge wasn't consistant in determining what it could damage, isn't that right?
