I'm confused, he has the overall lead and he's done? Most of the 'experts' I've read are predicting a close race with Lance probably winning it.

    He did say this:

But what I've read indicates it'll be close and he probably has the strongest team.

I do not consider Lance done. However, this Tour seems to be more open than the previous ones. I guess the Pyrenees will more or less decide the outcome (without forgetting the last time trial).

I guess Lance will have to attack somewhere in the Pyrenees to make sure that Ullrich isn't going to win. I mean, with that last time trial in the back of your head and the fact that there's another one after they come out of the Pyrenees, Lance has got to build up a lead.

Well, after today's stage it looks like for the first time in 5 years the outcome of the Tour won't be trivial. My personal favourite is still Lance though, and I believe that tomorrow he will attack and leave everybody behind. It wouldn't be the first time he uses some "mental tricks" against the opposition.

This one might be contested all teh way into Paris! I wonder if the Posties will attack tomorrow like they're trying to regain the maillot jaune, instead of simply defending it...

The Lance of old was certainly back for today's stage! Imagine, gaining almost a full minute after crashing AND pulling your foot out of the pedal.

But how much of a lead is enough, considering Ullrich's performance in the last time trial?!

Lance attacks. Pushes his lead to 1:07 over Ullrich and 2:45 over Vino.

Edit - Rally must've just beaten me at hitting enter : )

I've got the feeling that the 1:07 is enough to win his fifth Tour. He looked fit after this race and I don't think he's going to give this away.

Lance played a little trick on everyone in the last time trial i'm afraid. He can now take it easy with his new lead. Tour is over, Lance wins 5 in a row.

You call dehydration to the tune of 6 kg a "little trick"?!

Lance was surely great today, but haven't it been for Ulrich being such a good "sportsman" he wouldn't have stood a chance...

I really hope today's stage will seal it and that Lance will not fail the chrono. Winning it all with a stage like this would really be unforgettable :thumb:

No - we rode mostly in Princeton before we left, and since we've been back we've not been in good enough shape to haul our butts AND our son's trailer up that thing. It's a goal, though...

    Have you?

    @ Rallymama

i just thought he didn't give it all he got, especially in the last time trial. he's done stuff like that before. Kinda like a smokescreen, let the others think he's finished.

I didn't hear about the dehydration though. :D

Apparently they all do that. In 2001 Ulrich just rode off the road during a descent and Lance slowed down to let Ulrich catch up to him. It's the name of the game I guess.

It's the standard courtesy due to the maillot jaune, according to Tyler Hamilton's post-race interview.
