Myself. I've experienced no other threat as honest.....my genes conspire against me, especially those residing on my Y chromosome.

    Natural dangers:
None environmentally speaking unless you count the drought.
We have spiders though...lots and lots of spiders. Oh, and snakes (though not many in the city).

As for city dangers there is always Airport West. An unimaginative name for a shady area.

Wild Boars. But only near the forest, and at night. Still, you don't want to be too sure about that, since they can come out in the daytime too.

Oh, and go a bit more to the east, to Franconia, where much of my family lives, and you will be in danger of being mauled by a Wolpertinger. ;)

We have wild hogs, too. But they usually run away, or just stare evily at you til you go away.

Other natural danger may include wasps, foxes (according to our dog, at least), and mosquitos. Damn beasts are everywhere. There is entirely too much water around here.

You may get mugged by bored youths in certain parts of the city, but I never had that particular problem.

The most dangerous thing for me is having an animal cut me off while driving to or from work; besides that live in Maine isn't all that dangerous.

Considering the number of people getting murdered here, i'd say the biggest threat to the people of England is...

    The people of England.

Re. the part I highlighted... probably not. I'd have to do a tiny bit of research, but I seriously doubt that any reactor in an academic setting is large enough to result in evacualtion of a whole city. Additionally, the type of reactor that's likely to be on a uni campus is NOT the same as one that would be used for generating power. Without the high-pressure containment or all of the secondary systems (also at very high pressure and temps), much of the risk goes away. And dosimeters? ANYONE who does anything with radiation is required by law to wear them. Look closely the next time you're getting an X-ray at the dentist.

Back on topic... the biggest danger in Philadelphia is shootings. Every day there's a rundown in the paper of who got shot the night before.

While it is not as large as a production reactor, it's smack in the middle of town, and security there has been questioned by ABC News, amoungst others. Now then, I do think the ABC report was a bit exaggerated and I would consider it a biased source, but still enough to give a person pause: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/LooseNukes/story?id=988837

I'd agree with Rally there. Usually the university reactors are only used to irradiate research materials. The one in Florida is only 100 kw -- the 4.8 kg limit is actually misleading as is "highly enriched uranium."

The only concern is if someone uses explosives to blow it up and make a "dirty bomb" -- which at 4.8 kg is not going to be very "dirty." Plus the grade of uranium is not weapons grade so there is no possibility of a nuclear explosion.

I think both of us are trying to say "rest easy Stef, you shouldn't lose any sleep over this one."

I live in a small village so there isn't much of a threat from anything. However, at my other house, we are plagued by chavs!
