SleepleSS, Jesus was a jew. Does that mean the film is about hating Jesus?

[IMG] Oooh boy, let me stop this before it goes any further. If you want to debate who is responsible for Jesus' death, open a topic in AoDA.

Arabwel - "sub-class" - as defined by myself - the bottom budget range of B class pictures, as well as any feature made for wide broadcast and/or box office which did not have the budget or features of class A, or even class B movies. I agree that whilst for some people "They Live!" might be the best picture ever made, but for the majority it is (at best) crappy film which is ok to watch if you're drunk and/or drugged.

As for porn - let us agree to disagree here. I believe pornography is wrong, and I could cite statistics, whcih mention that crushing majority of rapists were addicted to pornography. This statistic also includes marriage rapists, amongst whom ca. 99% per cent were addicted to pornography. Also among the psychotic killers the percentage is significant enough not to be ignored. I also believe psychologists (especially clinical psychologists and psychoterapists) when they state it is very likely to become addicted to pornography, especially if atmosphere surrounding porn is permissive and there is nothing wrong perceived in it. Strangely though, looking at another nude person would be grounds for sensible jealousy (as opposed to pathological jealousy) between attached people, but looking at porn wouldn't be. I find it strange.
Anyway - as stated before - let us agree to disagree. I will not dilute this subject anymore.

    Returning to the topic then:
@Splunge, by the smiley you have included in your post, I imply that you were being ironic. Otherwise, if you were not, explain what blasphemy was there in the picture.

    @Rednik. Why do you state:
What wasn't religious about it? Define "religious movie." The definition I agree with: "a feature made on basis of a religious story, derived from the Bible, Quran, Torah, or otherwise, or any historical feature which deals with the issues concerning a particularly religious society, in case of Judaism limited to raze of Jerusalem and in case of Christianity limited to apostolic times (up to death of John)."
That way, the film stays well within the definition.
Gorefest? By that statement, Bible is gorefest. There are multiple passages which speak openly of it. Since Gospels should not be read without even a basic inquiry into historical facts, passion and death of Christ would not be perceived as particularly drastic - "he was crucified, what's the big deal?" With even basic knowledge of the period, the reader should be aware of sadism that Roman executors exercised on their victims. Crucifiction was not only a painful and sadistic death on its own (death was through suffocation when the executed person was no longer able to pull themselves up on the cross, if it took too long, they had their leg bones broken in order to not be able to pull up at all), but was very often "improved upon perfection" by the executioners, who added their own set of "special treats." Death of Christ was particularly dreadful as he has received flogging, which was usually deemed as a final punishment, after which the person was to go free, but Christ has finally been sentenced to death when flogging did not appease the crowd. Crown of thorns and pushing during the way of the cross were the "special treats" I mentioned.
Why say all of this? Because if you went to the movie, you were supposed to know how the execution proceeded and it was up to you to choose to go see the movie or not.

Arabwel - just a quick question: do you disagree on the attitude towards porn or the statistical figures I've mentioned (not quoted, mind you)?

Attitude towards porn -I like to thinkt hat porn itself is not a bad thing but rather the way it's handled. If you do a search in the alley, I believe I explained my views some time ago.

As for the statisticcs, I will have to look at it... I am not a great believer in those.

hehe. I'm with Arabwel, I have no idea how Pirates came into the picture either :p

    on-topic:
people can make movies about whatever they want. it's not THEIR fault the people wtach it. personally, I can't comment much as I didn't watch it, but I really hate religious movies as they bore the sh*t outta me. (Yes, I'm a roman catholic ;) ) Good for Mel Gibson that he made money with it, only shows that he's a good producer and that the movie was good.

Now I must see it. Did not get a chance to see it here, because the nearest cinema lies 20 kilometers (don't know what it is in miles) away, but I felt an urge to see it. Here we have a serious christian elit, who hated the film. And since they hated it, it had to be good. As for making mony out of religion, when has that been a bad thing? There are to many examples out there for me to mention.

At the risk of being :yot:

Did anyone here have a similar reaction to The Last Temptation Of Christ? Granted, LToC probably didn't have the budget, gore or high profile of PotC but it still dealt with Christ. And also had the 'nerve' to portray Him as a man.
