    [​IMG] BTA, I must disagree with you.

    There IS a difference between "[" and "(". A big one. When expressing and interval i.e. "x is greater than 4 but less than 10," you would use the notation "(4,10)". But when stating "x is greater than or equal to 4 but less than 10," you would use the notation "[4,10)". And "x is greater than or equal to 4 but less than or equal to 10" is expressed by "[4,10]". Understood?

    Oh, yes Slim, that's true, but I was referring only to their (meaning parentheses, brackets and braces) use in algebraic functions which is what Mollusken was asking about.

    They have many different meanings depending on what you're talking about, but for algebraic functions all three are just for notational convenience.
