    @Death Rabbit

    I thought that it was a joke but I considered that it was directly connected with your previous sentence about "valid reason for keeping it in" and I just wanted to show that there are valid reasons for including it in the first place and that the nazis are not the only people who are going to use it. Perhaps my post wasn't clear enough.

    If you all look at the site again, you can see the proper one used in the buddhist religion etc. And the wierd diagonal one the Nazis used.

    Here you can see pictures of relics from different cultures, which have the swastika upon them.

    Look, if you're pissed off about Microsoft removing the swastika from their symbols list, then the thing to do, the *only* thing to do, is to write them and complain about their insensitivity to (and remember, I said "insensitivity to," not "breach of")First Amendment Rights. As in:

    "Dear Sir,

    It has come to our attention that you have removed the swastika from your symbols list after pressure was applied by customers who considered the image 'insensitive.' It has apparently escaped your notice that removing this symbol is even more offensive to the spirit of the First Amendment and to those of us who enjoy living in a nation where the freedom of expression is considered an inalienable right.

    If you do not replace the swastika forthwith, I will boycott your products until you comprehend that the freedom of expression supercedes all other rights in our great nation.

    [optional: history of the swastika]
    [optional: The Bill of Rights]
    [optional: Disclaimer: I am not a neo-nazi...er, well, not so optional.]"

    But since we're going to debate it in an SP thread rather than doing that, then it is likely the swastika will remain smitten from the lists.

    Yeah, it's kind of funny. I can understand the Jews being harshed over the swastika. But David knows there's a whole slew of Philistines and Arabs and whichever group it was that Amalek was with, that have just as harsh of memories of the Star.

    There's chicks that are o-ffended by snow penii sculptures. And there's Abos (Native Australians) that are o-ffended by the Australian flag.

    And there's blacks (African Americans [whatever]) that are o-ffended by the Confederate flag.

    Meh.

    *waves hand*

    This isn't the hate symbol you're looking for. There'll be another one along, shortly. You should be looking out for it. I can go about my business.

    Move along. Move along.

    ejsmith, you've nailed the base of the problem. Many different things are offensive to different people. How can we choose one person's views and feelings about something, and enforce those views on everything. Its the controversial subject of dictating morals. Rather than exclude one or two of these issues, exclude all or none. Many of your posts suggest you believe the same thing.
