Morrowind released

    Sulipund is the "convert" one, but if i go south from it, i will go in the lake.

    Is it in the lake? (I found one cave underwater, but nothing but pearls in it!)

    Look at the map that comes with the game. Punabi is on the trail that leads north-east of Lake Amaya. Also it's pretty close (south of) to Sulipund as I recall.

    Yeah, its not that far away. You can see both of them on the same local map view on the menu screen. If you've walked for more than a minute or two, you've gone too far.

    THe trail curves very slightly to the west as it heads south from Sulipund.

    [​IMG] Yess, thank you, i found it!

    But there is another problem, i have level 18 character but the monsters im fightning kick my butt (hunger and some deadra like) when they hit me i fall to the ground and then they kill me, how to avoid this.

    Btw. There is one thingie that Daggerfall was much better in: this game doesnt have big cities (ok Vivec is big but too much spreaded) like Daggerfall itself. And i miss shoplifting :evil:

    [​IMG] I need some help in this game - I posted this in Playground but I'd really like to get some response so I can enjoy life again. I can't seem to beat the quest where you're supposed to find the Dwemer Puzzle Box. Where is it in the cave complex? I get past this little lake in the Deep Ore Passages (I think that's the name) and can't jump to get to the "second floor" of the thing in front of me. Where is the puzzle box?

    Higher agility stat will help you stand your ground better during combat and not get knocked down so often. If your raw power doesn't match up, make use of magic, potions and enchantments. I used to cast regenerate (heal 10-20 hps per second for 15 seconds for example) spells before a fight if it was tough. Now I just walk over even gods (yeah you can meet a god or two :) ) as if it was a picnic ride :) I enchanted myself a deadric dai-katana that deals about 60 shock damage per hit :D

    First, you don't have to wipe out those Daedra to solve that quest. All you have to do is get the girl to pay the 2000 gp and go home. You can, after all, take her advice and not disturb her friends. :)

    If you do want to fight them, good luck. As mentioned, Agility is the key to not getting knocked down if you are hit. But not getting hit is a better option. Sanctuary, Chameleon, and Shield are very useful effects to have up in this regard. If you have any summoning ability, you might bring some critters in to block for you.

    Without knowing anything about your character's skills and equipment I can't really give you any specific advice.

    Shoplifting, pickpocketing, etc are part of the game. You just need to be have successfully used your Sneak skill and be in stealth mode when you try to lift stuff. High levels of Chameleon can substitute in a pinch, but Sneak is more reliable in that regard. Or, use both. :)

    Thanks! So if i duck (stealth mode) i can shoplift? But if i havent got high stalth stat i wont enter stealth mode when i duck. Is that it? Are there any influences from the light (more chance to enter stealth in the dark)?

    Is it possible that when you buy a spell that she costs less mana than when you make it? And how does stats in certain magic school affects spellcasting (besides higher chance)?

    Hey Invoker, on wich level did you get deaderic stuff? (i took long blade just for that). And am I correct: if you have higher fatigue, the more chance you have to hit.

    Light level does have some effect on stealth chance, but the main thing is whether you are observed when doing it. If you try to use stealth in front of someone, they tend not to be fooled. Try using it behind their back. Also, the spell effect Chameleon is very good at boosting your chances with stealth.

    As far as I know, the bought spells and the made spells are the same costs. You have to know the spell (ie bought it) in order to make a spell with that effect. Spell making just lets you combine spell effects into a single spell and/or change the range/target/duration type stuff.

    Low fatigue can make you fight less effectively, so yes, you have a better chance to hit when at full fatigue.

    Daedric stuff can be acquired at pretty much any level. If its placed spefically, its there right at 1st level. Other times, its available as a random drop. Lots of people talk about getting daedric stuff from Dremora lords in shrines, but I've never gotten it that way (even with my 20th level pilgrim). Those bums always drop dwemer weapons for me. :) Some of the cultists, though, have had glass, ebony, and daedric stuff. I don't know if that's level dependent or not.

    Thanks!

    So if i want some new spell to cast, i need first to buy it from some "spelltrader" and than can i make my own with the same effect?

    And is there some way to delete spell from spellbook? I have made several spells for learning purpose (low casting cost) so they are useless in combat (since spells arent getting better with levels like in daggerfall).

    Yes, that is correct. You buy the spell from someone with "Spells" as a dialogue option. Then you can use that type of effect either in "spellmaking" or in 'enchanting'. Obviously, you can just cast the spell the way you bought it, too.

    Removing a spell from you inventory is done either by right clicking or shift clicking when selecting the spell in the magic inventory (forget exactly which).

    Well, the game just cam out in the UK, and so I felt forced to buy it :).

    Anyway, I've played a little while - done several of the quests for the theives guild in Balmora, and a couple of quests for House Hlaalu. What can I say? The game's great - the interface took a little while to get used to, but that is really to be expected, and there are a couple of times where the game runs annoyingly slowly, but I can live with that. Anyway, it's a top game. :D

    Oh, and out of curiosity, how did you all choose your class? Did you answer the guys questions or pick yourself? In my opinion, the character creation process of the game is great, especially the option to have a class determined for you by your answers to certain questions. :)

    Heh I answered the questions and my char came out to be a spellsword. The thing is, you can be a fighter who excels in magic. Or a mage who fights extremely well. It doesn't really matter, as morrowind doesn't stop you from doing whatever you want. That said, I made this custom char:
    Breton with the atronach sign
    bonus to stats: endurance and luck (hard to raise leveling (generally only gives x1 or x2 multiplier))
    major skills: alteration, destruction, longblade, light armour, block
    minors: mysticism, conjuration, restoration, sneak, marksman

    I used the question method and ended up a Pilgrim. A nicely balanced class, too.

    One for Invoker and Vormaerin, I got the game yesterday (no Karyst) and used the questions to develop the class..... and became a rogue with trading skills. Spooky huh. All I need now is to become incredibly inept at using a dagger.

    I've also managed to find a slight bug. I *****Spoiler**** rescued the slaves (another common RPG theme of the moment) in the smuggler caves then bravely ran to hide from the angry mage. I now can't get out of the door (that was blocking the slaves) because the mage is constantly running against it :( Oh well not exactley a great deal to reload as this is pretty much the start of the game.

    In closing I also must congratulate the game designers on having slappy headed charcaters as the default hair style for males :)

    Final controversial thought. At the moment I think I actually prefer the graphics in Gothic. Morrowind's are slightly more detailed but Gothic's had a more natural organic look. I guess its just more about what you're currently used to.


    Eeek another bug, I went back to the smuggler caves and managed to get stuck in the upside down boat by the fire in the entrance cave. Start again :(

    I'm also guessing that the game is a completely solo affair. I've met lots of static NPCs and no one has offered to join me :(

    Just to make another Gothic comparison, the NPCs all seem a little static (in Gothic they all wander around, repairing huts, cooking diner, smoking joints and urininating) and there seems to be less interaction with the world (yes you can pick everything up but Gothic allows you to do stuff with stuff). From the reviews I've now read I guess that Morrowind will have a better story and more freedom and replayability than Gothic. It should also offer much more choice for character development. I also understand that I can customise weapons, spells and potions, though no one has offered this service yet.

    Finally, how do I get to use my armour and weapon repair or modification skills? I have found simthies who will repair stuff but I can't find an option to do it myself (I have brough tools to do the work).

    Anyway, I am enjoying it at the moment though it's a little overwhelming (mainly because I'm playing a wuss, I guess).

    The 'character stuck on object' is a regular occurance in the game. It doesn't happen constantly, by any means, but more often than you would like. If it happens to your PC, you can fix it by typing 'fixme' in the console (alt ~ brings that up) most of the time. If it happens to a NPC, you can either reload, do rather complex things with the console, or use the bug to kill the NPC relatively safely. If you give the NPC a new line of sight to you, it may get them unstuck as well. Sometimes neutrals block doorways and you have to shove your way past them repeatedly, too.

    I haven't played gothic, so I can't compare its graphics to Morrowind's. Morrowind's are certainly nice, though.

    As for being inept with a dagger, I think the game will manage that for you for a good long time. Until you get something like a glass jinkblade or daedric dagger, the knives just aren't gonna be very useful. My pilgrim is a shortblade user with 'stealth' specialty as well and it took me a long time to really get lethal in combat. Especially since such characters naturally tend to solve a lot of quests non violently. And I'm playing a Orc, so I was very good at medium armor to start with and problably much better at Str and Spd than you. :)

    Yes, the NPCs are fairly static. A few make snide jokes about this during the game, too. There are quests in which you get travelling companions. Some are real allies and some are travelling with you because they would be dead on their own. But there are no 'permanent' party members to be found outside of mods.

    To repair armor, make potions, or any similar sort of skill click and drag the relevant tool from you inventory to your portrait (ie 'equip' it). That will bring up the relevant menu. For armorer, that's either the armorer's hammer or the repair tongs. Once the menu is up, just click on the icons of the items you want to repair.

    Yeah that fireball flinging smuggler in the first cave was very tough for me as well as I had another wimpy character :)
    One problem was I was sending him fire type damage spells as well but the Dunmer are 75% resistant to fire. Then I decided to turn my play into doom :D He throws the fireball, then strafe strafe jump hit back strafe and he was dead ;)

    Oh and if any of the npcs are blocking doorways or paths, other than the fixme command, you can also use the ra command (reset actors) in console which will put the npcs in their proper place.

    :) Thanks for the tips. I've pretty much decided that I can't turn this character into Devious - he won't survive without help if I do. I am going to keep him fairly non-combat though and so am sticking to short swords rather than the more powerful, but less in charcater, axes. Thanks for the tip about the armourer skill, I did finally manage to work it out but had struggled a bit.

    Currently I'm being chased around Gnaar Mok by one of those bloody great silt striders. I saw one in the wild and made the mistake of investigating it :eek:

    I'm slowly getting into it now and have completed my first few simple quests - ***SPOILERS**** the smugglers cave (though no journal feedback on that some I might have missed something), the murdered tax collector, delivering the package, joining the emperor's spy guildy thing, handing back the healing ring (not such a good idea), and that's about it. I also befriending a cat burgular (literatally) and have agreed to sort out some bloke in Gnaar Mok who was causing them trouble (though I reckon he'll probably be too tough for me).

    Oh well time to get back to it :)

    err, I think you meant Netches, not Silt striders. The Netchs are the flying jellyfish like things. The silt striders are the giant bugs that serve as mass transit. Gnaar Mok does have a breeding pair of Netches harassing the city, but most of the time Netches (like scribs) are not hostile.

    Short swords are fine. That's what I've used throughout the game (well, and my crossbow-which rocks, btw). Most shortblades don't have much a damage range (ie min and max are very close) unlike other weapons. That means you can concentrate on hitting as often as possible instead of holding the mouse button down for 'harder' swings. They also tend to do roughly the same damage in all three attack vectors, so that isn't something you have to worry about either. All in all, very nice weapons.
