I didn't remember if they both had a pair, or if the other one was with the merchant you meet in that outdoor area, or if it was the smugglers, or whatever - that explains where they are!

IIRC, you can only get the other Boots of Speed from Renal after escaping the Underdark. I seem to remember that I've ever only used 1 pair (not including ToB content) until the last few chapters. Or it might be because if you tried messing with him before then, Arkanis Gath will spawn and kill off your party.

You're probably right, but that would only necessarily apply if you team up with the Shadow Thieves. Any idea about if you side with Bodhi?

I have sided with Bodhi in the past, so I definitely have killed Renal. From an XP and items perspective, it's actually the better deal. You get most of the magic item Aran Linvail will give you when you kill him - plus the nice elven chain mail he won't give you. You get that very nice throwing axe, and you still get the mace of disruption. If we could add boots of speed to the list, it becomes even more profitable to side with Bodhi.

Renal will disappear if you side with Bodhi though. Google has confirmed that you can only loot the boots from Renal safely after you've escaped the Underdark, since Arkanis Gath won't spawn anymore (you can't pickpocket the boots). The alternative is to use cheesy tactics to get rid of Arkanis somehow or use a glitch to kill Renal before Chapter 6, giving you three pairs of Boots of Speed by the time you reach the Underdark.

Don't you get to kill Renal if you chose the "honorable" mission as your second task from Bodhi? Isn't that where you have to rescue some guy from the Shadow Thieves, and isn't he right there in the area where Renal is?

Nope. Flynn (the guy you'll have to rescue) will be there, but Renal will disappear.

I just confirmed that Renal is missing when siding with Bodhi.
Maybe it's a mod that lets you kill him for the boots? I only have the aTweaks (primarily to remove the summoning limits), g3 tweaks v3, bonus merchant, and Baldurdash (g3 fixpack didn't exist).

I'm planning on trying the other Nalia romance mod next, the non-weidu one, hence the lack of mods. Maybe I'll try the Imoen romance, since I joked that I'd rather sleep with Imoen than Anomen (and I'm fully aware of her relationship to Charname, it's kinda the point for my sarcasm).
