i am very glad to hear the tuna trick worked

And dont fret too much, no animal will starve itself over food, just keep the food there and the cat will eat it when it relizes that is all it's getting.

So how is TomCat doing? I was hoping that we could use your story as an example and reference, to those who make bad tasting pills

[IMG] The last days I haven't had the time to keep you up to date with felix worm-cure. Well that's how it went on:

The worm cure consisted of three pills (slightly overdozed for our vet knew about, as she called it, "acceptance problems especially among cats" , yes, really nice term.

    Day 1:
As I mentined I outfoxed him using tuna the first day, after letting him wait for a few hours  (nasty, yes MUAHUAHUA) - he was so greedy he didn't realize that tere was a crused pill in it.

    Day 2:
When I got up, Felix was waiting for me and I kept him quiet till noon with a small portion of standard food. Then I tried to repeat the tuna trick - no way: He sniffed on it and looked at me with wide open eyes crying loudly "YOU WANT TO POISON ME !" and ran out of the open door in the garden. Beeing consequent I convinced him to eat at least half of the tuna, but he kept on looking sadly at me all the time. This, anyway, depleted my reserves of tuna and I had to look for something else for the next day.

    Day 3:
The last pill and the challenge how to give it to Felix: Still considering several variants, I simply waited to allow him to become really hungry  Finally (at late afternoon) I dissolved the last pill in condensed cream and the intense aroma seemed to "override" the unpleasant scent of the pills and so he drank it all away.

Really surprising that you seem to need to change tactics regularly for cats are pretty smart and look through any camouflage for every kind of medicine ;)

I noticed that with Elmo, my cat, when I put him on diet, he just catches some birds or whatever he can find in the garden.

LOL, yes - sounds like Felix :) He started to hunt fanatically - everything moving and under his size: chipmunks (failed every time), rabbits (failed every time) mice (4), small birds (4) and large birds (1, pidgeon).

Inceonsequently he never ate them, he's too degenerated I fear (a poor, stupid animal home refugee). It was amazing to see my last cat möhrchen make a rabbit disappear in 45 minutes to sleep happily for the rest of the day. She turned from a purring beauty to a fierce predator within seconds.

[IMG] How can a rat taste better than your food? Geeeeez I get more and more worried about those who produce Cat food. they must be nuts.

Felix's Mind: What to eat today? hmmmm I think I'll chew in this muddy rat with fur, bones and blood rather than Ragusa's extra deluxe Catfood, bought for $10 in the local store. :D

It's probably like human food- they like what isn't good for them. If we were the "pets" of some wiser, kinder race than ourselves we'd probably be fed tofu and brown rice instead of bacon burgers.

[IMG] LOL, see, i'm not the only one who's cat realises that the food of the cat gods is poisoned by evil pills that they need to take.
Still glad you got it done:D, but given i know cats, i don't think they'll just take the pill if you ask politely;).

Ugh! Are you *really* going to do that? Cat food is the worst-smelling substance I've ever encountered. Do let us know if you manage it... I think you should get some kind of medal or award. Bleech.

[IMG] Cat food isn't that worse (cats wouldn't eat it) it's only not spiced so it tastes strange.

But with a little salt 'n' pepper....

Before you start believing that i'm quarreling with my cat for the food (my wife isn't such a bad cook anyway), i once tasted it after my (at that time about 3 year old) daughter ate half a cup of it and caught in action she replied "catfood good". :D

Maybe the reason why cats prefer rats and mice to cat food is the scent of blood. It's smell seems to change cats and to wake up fundamental instincts. I remember that I cut myself in the kitchen while my old cat möhrchen was waiting in hope to get some freebie cooked bacon.

As soon as she smelled the blood her view was fixed on my finger and she walked straight to me, very determined and excited with the expression "don't wast that pretious stuff ... leave something for me!!!" in her face. It was kinda scary, just like Klaus Kinski in the Nosferatu movie. She was bitterly disappointed when she didn't get some.

I mean, have you ever seen a cat, breaking up and eating a rabbit or a pidgeon, roaring deeply, distictly saying "don't you dare to touch it, it's all mine" ...

Jesus christ in a fucking blender.

Ok here goes: I bought a Catty delishious with ox-meat. around $1 in the local market

When I opened it looked like the liver paté I was served in the army. the stuff was very liquid and mushy but didn't really taste like anything at all. Certainly not bad. The smell was annoying though.

Anyway I went down to the local market and bought some crunchy "optimal diet" snacks $2. They had no taste either other than the aftertaste was very bitter. They smelled like nothing.

So one day I will make catfood that has an attractive smell or does tate better or taste like something. I mean how different can our taste impressions be when Felix was adicted after tasting Tuna?

PS: I might save those crunch snacks. :) they weren't that bad. But the mushy ox.meat goes straight in the garbage bin. too many memories of the army popped up.

    [IMG] LMAO!!

I never thought you would really do that!
Maybe a good idea to develop some cat food with a nice taste. My cat can have those damn beans I have to eat the coming year (Damn studentlife is expensive...), so I can eat something different for a change :money:

[IMG] Hmm, when our cats drew blood on us, purely collateral damage, when playing they always looked very sheepish, then tried to lick it better seal the wound. Maybe they just wanted to give you first aid Ragusa;). Then again, cats are trying to take over the world...
