    Nope, nope nope!

    I said there's SOME mystery involved in the show, not that it WAS a mystery show. The mystery is that no one ever knows exactly how each episode will end, even if the general outcome is rather highly predictable. There are often major surprises.

    And you're not thinking back far enough. When I say long-running, I mean LOOOOOOOOOONG.

    Oh, I missed the 26 year clue.
    So it's an American show that's been running for greater than 26 years, but not re-run (Presumably because it's not worth re-running). I guess it's got to be a Soap Opera.

    I'm crap at English Soaps, nevermind American. Something along the lines of "Days of Our Lives" that seems to have been going for ever.

    I'm a working Mom, I don't do soaps - but it was a reasonable, if wrong, guess as to category. I can't tell you the category of this show because that would give it away, but let's see what other cryptic hints I can baffle you with...

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Although the regular cast has been very limited over the show's run, it's produced some significant characters that have become part of the pop-culture lexicon.

    The action of each episode is provided by the special guest stars.

    Scriptwriters would go broke trying to make a living from this show.
