    Many of the computers that I have encountered in corporate IT departments are named after Star Trek things like Enterprise, Excelsior, Voyager etc.

    Well, I used to have some LAN in the past and the names were somewhere between my network login and the computer's network name. Let's say we, in a way, shared them ;) Those were mostly my old nicknames. Every time I need a computer name, I use first name initial and surname, or a nickname. Used to call my computer the Old Man, but that was before I had practically all insides replaced.

    You have to name your hard drives / partitions something, it's a simple ease of use matter (especially if you have several partitions). And it's done in Windows, so it's not something as abstract as naming the entire computer, which has no real practical purpose.

    If we're talking about hard drives mine are called Jupiter and Io. One having considerably more space than the other.

    I've never even thought about naming my computer. Then again i've never named my guitars, car, or my "goo-goo" either. If i had to name it, I would call it 'Cap'n Cool' which is what the ladies call me! :cool:

    That's quite funny, Sydax. Sometimes my PC is pretty much like the Millennium Falcon (although it never ever makes that jump to lightspeed).
