Joacqin - I heard today that she did not survive the cowardly attack by this insane madman. I am very sorry for her and all in your country. It is a very sad day for all of us when something this terrible happens. An attack like this is against the entire civilized world. But I believe that by all of us standing together firmly against this kind of brutality that we can make a difference.

As long as it's not proven otherwise, it was no attack against democracy. It was no attack against the entire world or anything else like it for that matter. It was a simple stabbing that lead to the death of a simple, normal, just like anyone else, human. Certainly not a good deed, but in no way more evil or complicated than the death of anyone else.

Even moreso, she's someone possibly thousands of miles away from most of us here. Someone who many of us haven't ever even heard of. Meaning her life is insignificant next to the lives of our friends, or pets.

Somehow I seriously doubt her death alone will cost me one cent more in the remaining years of my life, wether strictly materially speaking or otherwise.

I simply can't understand people who for the first time of their lives hear of a person who supposedly is more important than another and griefed by many, and then they start crying over it themselves like their best friend had just died. An extreme example but still.

More to the point, the suspect (not yet caught) is someone who's said to be mentally ill and have a sick and dangerous interest in sharp objects (knives). If these doubts prove to be true, then indeed this is no case of political violence. Just another person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and got promoted to a martyr because of the media and over-sympathetic people with no idea what was going on.

It is highly unlikely that she just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Her face was plastered on every wall here. The murderer was most probably quite disturbed but it wasnt Anna Lindh the person he stabbed, it was Anna Lindh the politician. That makes it more important than if I or you had been stabbed to death. It is obvious that it is a case of political violence, just because it isnt a grand conspiracy doesnt mean that it isnt a political murder. Nor does the state of the murderer indicate that, was John Lennons murder not aimed at him, even if the murderer was quite disturbed?

I can agree that some people exaggerates their reaction with crying but when a top politician anywhere is murdered it is a big thing. It creates chaos in the government and the remaining politicans might be less prone to do controversial things and to meet unknown citizens for discussions.

Although it might or might not have been a political murder, there will be political repercussions. Very real in this case, given the upcoming vote in Sweden. So, although my life might not change one bit, I believe it is still worth discussing the consequences of such an act.

    Welcome to the club :(

As mesmore posted, we in the netherlands thought the same way but after the pim fortuyn incident it's all wacked up.

I read this morning in the newspaper that the person who did this was spotted ravaging one of those posters, and one hour later someone who looked just like him stabbed your minister. That would definatly be a case of assassination which is growing more popular it seems.

My sincerest condolences to all sweden (and Europe I think)

On another sad note btw, this is only the beginning of the trouble, now the politician will get scared, the police get blamed for not protecting her, there will be investigations of how to protect this from further happenings. This is just the beginning, we saw it happen in the netherlands.
