    If your looking for some good fantasy tou should really try Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. It's probably the only fantasy series with a hero that has lepra!

    [IMG] I'm with Harkle, I recommend the Dragonlance Chronicles, followed by Legends, as both kicked @$$, however I think you should read Dragonlance Preludes first, as it gives you some good background knowledge of the characters. You could also try the Raistlin Chronicles, these are very good, too.

    By the way, Harkle, did you get your name from Terry Pratchett?- I just wondered....

    When true night falls
    Crown of shadows

    [IMG] I would suggest the Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. His descriptions are wonderful and his way of building up a character is great. If you read this trilogy, and the Icewind Dale trilogy you will have a very good group of characters to read about. Not to mention the series keeps expanding so you will have lots of material to read.

    But then again, I've only read a few of them. Ther's also a couple of single books I could recomend, such as...

    "the redemption of Athlus"
    and others, but I can't think of them reight now, maybe later...

    @Mister Rogue
    No, not from Terry Pratchett (haven't read his books yet), but from Salvatore, although I don't like his books much.

    All the above rock. Honest. Read some of them. But if you're looking for that dungeons and dragons, wizards and sorcerers thing, Dragonlance takes the cake and the whole bakery with it.
    But here's something i didn't see above...

    ....try George RR Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' triology/quadrology starting with 'A Game of Thrones'. This one kicks ass, balls, boobs and every other ****. Mind Blowing stuff this, miss it not...

    ...or other authors to note apart from the above: JV Jones, Rob Jordan (duh!), Guy Gavriel Kay, Ricardo Pinto, LE Modessitt Jr, Vernor Vinge...good stuff...

    I'm so down with Dragonlance and the FR books, and I'll take an a**-beating for saying this in a fantasy forum, but Larry Niven and Robert A. Heinlin are excellent sci-fi writers, and I have found their stuff to be better than anything in Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms.

    But, if you only want fantasy look to Christopher Rowley's Basil Broketail or Shast War series.
