Peca is gone for the season, multiple fractures to his Tibia near the knee doesn't sound good...

I notices Kris Newburry, Ben Ondruss and Alexander Suglobov playing Saturday night against the Caps.

Peca is the words loss, but Pony, Antropov and Welly will all be missed badly too.

Vancouver won 6-5 over Calgary on second game of a home-and-home. What an exciting game to watch - the flow of the game turning back and forth, some sweet goals and timely goals in pressure packed situations.

Well, I just turned off the Penguins-Leafs game and all I have to say is that the Leafs should send tapes of the game to the NHL head office with a demand that the refs should be fired.

It's nice to see the Pens finally beat the Leafs.

Phoenix owned San Jose yet again. Strange how a team just seems to have another team's number, regardless of their season record.

    @ JSBB :

That's the story night after night for every team. I wonder where are these referees coming from. Do they even have a brain? or are they, like, robots devoid of any A.I.? Seriously, everytime I watch a habs game, I shout at the refs!

Speaking of the habs, after a good run in december (and coming within 5 pts of Buffalo and the top spot in th east), they lost their two last games against Florida and Tampa Bay. They played very poorly in both games. Let's hope they can turn it around tonight in the Tampa Bay rematch!

JSBB: I didn't even bother with the last few minuted of the debacle--er game that night. At least Tucker wasn't hurt as bad as they feared, and Wellwood has a timetable for a return. Now Peca is talking that his time off is in weeks not months or rest of the season. This is gut check for the team and a real test for the organization to see what they have to do for the future. While Sundin and Tucker should be kept ofr next year, if they aren't going to make the playoffs, Jeff O'neil could be moved at the deadline for a prospect or a draft pick. The defence is not solid enough for a name to move from the top 5 (glad to see Colliacovo actually pan out), but if they are going to make the run for the cup, one or two young D-men could move to bring in a forward if one becomes available at the right price...

Wow, Toronto's second stringers certainly did a number on Boston tonight. 10-2 with all of the goals coming from Steen, Stajan, Pohl, Battaglia, Kilger, and Newbury. It is always kind of funny when you have a guy who has managed only 4 goals in 41 games and then he gets the hat trick.

What a pity that the game was on Leaf TV - I would have loved to watch that one.

I have Leafs TV. Things really didn't pick up until late in the second. 3 goals in 42 seconds to go from 3-2 to 6-2, and then the four goal third to cap it of...

If Battaglia and Stajan had completed Hat Tricks, Darcy Tucker wouldn't live that down for a long time...

How about that game commentary on the Vancouver-Toronto game? The guy kept talking talking about Vancouver's slow start when they were up 4-1 or 5-1 to the point where he even had to tell himself to stop mentioning it!

I really hope they do something about the schedules... three years is way too long to wait for another one of these Western Canada vs Eastern Canada matchups.

I'm really mad after the habs. They seem to have stopped working at winning. The 8-3 loss against Ottawa was pathetic. They really must start to win soon, or they will start to fall in the standings, and be battling for the 8th spot in the east if it continues..

They should get rid of Samsonov, Kovalev and Aebicher, try to get some fresh blood in the mix..

Actually, Aebischer doesn't seem to be the problem. Huet hasn't been getting the job done. I agree that Kovalev and Samsonov should go. Mind you, as a Leafs fan, I'd like to see them in stay in the division (just not Toronto).

I'm happy that the Leafs have won 3 of the last 4. And Raycroft has looked Good in the last two games. That and some of the injured (Pony and Antropov now, Wellwood and Tucker after the break) are getting healthy again, I think hte Leafs do make the playoffs.

Malkin 5 points. He was worth the wait. The Penguins are starting to look like they did in the late 80s prior to winning the cup. They still need a couple more pieces (better d) and we'll be back at full speed.

Yeah, in a church meeting this morning, the question was put out to define tragedy. I asked if last night's Leafs game counted...

Well, it's the all star break. Time to see if the Leafs can get some of their injured back...

Absolutly, Aebischer isn't the problem in Mtl, but with Huet and Yan Danis in Hamilton (a young goalie who has shown signs to be a good #2 in the NHL), as well as Halak, Desjardins and Carey Price (who did an awesome job with Canada in the World minor championship), Aebischer becomes rather expendable. With several teams looking for goalies (minus L.A. who got Burke from Tampa), he has trade potential.

Montréal got two HUGE wins against Atlanta and Buffalo (two good teams). They're playing great hockey. After the gutsy move of Carbonneau to make Rivet and Samsonov healty scratches, the team responded very well when they came back. They were able to crawl back to the 4th eastern spot. Let's hope it goes on... :p

What players do you think are liable to change teams until the trade deadline? I call Forsberg to NY Rangers.

AH, so they could trade Aebicher to a team that will actually play him.

Meanwhile, Kyle Wellwood is having hernia surgery and will miss 6 to 8 weeks. I don't know that he'll get his roster spot back so easily...

Yay all star game coming up! Another one of these rare opportunities to see players from the east. Although the trade rumours don't seem so hot this year. The only thing I hear about is Bulis asking for a trade after he played a few solid games.

I think that the salary cap has put the brakes on the trade talk. Most teams want to move dead weight, but don't want to take other teams dead weight in return...

Yeah, that's the downside of it. I think last year at the trade dealine, there wasn't a lot of mouvement either. Still, I did hear a solid rumor of Samsonov going to Chicago for Adrian Aucoin. I'm not sure I believe it because frankly, who would want Samsonov? But still, Aucoin is making some money, has a 3 years left on his contract and is not playing as well as people hoped he would... That would give you a defensman with a good shot, so maybe the habs could trade off another great shot D, Souray (who is going to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and has stated he wants to move in California to be with his kids) , and get a good center player.

Honestly, I think All GM's should leave themselves 3 to 5 million in cap space so that when there's an injury or an opportunity, you can make the move to put you over the top...
