@ chev - Breton are your more magic type class but I would figure Imperials to suit the paladin since they gain more skills that your paladin will actually use (weapon and armor skills). You can always take the apprentice birthsign to gain extra mana and your ability scores change depending on what you use the most - so it doesn't matter much with what you start with. The game is far easier as a combat focused character so don't bother taking Breton or High Elf races. Besides, Paladins are supposed to be rather polite and well spoken, not scholars.

I would say Imperial, also. Very decent build for a Paladin. Would you be using a longsword or a claymore?

Longsword for the beginning, that's sure. More of a refined fencer than a basher. Elven thinblade from D&D would be the best kind of longsword.

You'll have to settle for Katanas then :) The closest thing to a rapier is a sabre (which is a step above longsword) so don't foget to take block. Considering how you're going to be a heavy armor wearing smucko be sure to select strength as one of your primary attributes.

    Possible spoiler...

There's a lovely crescent blade (skill: Long Sword) that you can pick up 2/3rds of the way through the main quest. It's not the strongest item in the game but definitely the most stylish!
