Shralp - you point is valid, but stating it as a truism is not.

Human Greed obviously exists at present, and will doubtless continue too for the forseeable future. However, one leaves no oportunity for redemption if one says that capitalism is the best system...

Did you know that if the world population, was all reduced down to that of a village where there were a 100 occupants...

89 of those occupants would be hetrosexual
70 of those occupants would be asian
5 of those occupants would have money every day etc. (this one may be inaccurate)

I was told this at assembly in school by my headmaster. Of course there are other facts that he stated about the topic but i can't remember them.

Just goes to show how lucky we b******* are. I guess we should respect that. Especially as only 1% of the population has in their possession a computer (again that may be inaccurate)

[IMG] What wouldn't I give to find out if capitalism will still be around in 500 years...

    Just a question.

Can't capitalism with a good protion of its resources spent on healthcare and poverty or the less fortunate be the considered "socialism"? Why are the terms "capitalism" and "socialism" necessarily in opposition to each other? Or are they? I am a little confused. Perhaps I should spend some more time outside the labs.. :)

PS; The regional gouvernors will now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear, of this battlestation.

That's an intruiging point Nobleman - some sort of capitalism-driven socialism. Isn't that sort of the kind of thing thay have in Sweden? A capitalist country but with several hallmarks of Socialism? Any Swedes here that can set the record straight on this?

PS Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

Sweden has a mixed system, just like many other european nations. A free market in most aspects but with a relatively strong state. It has worked pretty well but the market has gotten more and more power in the last years and the state less. But the state still controls most of the health care and educational system.

I personally have a bad example on the state and market thing... I live in a group home that is run as a profit-based thing. The state pays the owners for running a place for youths who can't live home.

I mean, they are supposed to help us.... but the owners do it for profit. And it shows.
