Alright, as a math major, I just have to point out somethin' I see here.

In the practice of statistics, this poll violates a few rules-

    1) This sample is biased to only including members of SP and possibly other boards. Due to this bias it is impossible to draw conclusions about ALL gamers based on the data gathered herein.

    2) This survey is Voluntary Response, meaning that it isn't selecting people at "random" from a population, but waiting for them to respond to the question on their own, which introduces a response bias. This could result in the undercoverage of the input of certain gamers who are just too damned lazy to respond to this post.

    3) The question introduces bias insofar as it doesn't clarify what "gaming" is. Is p&p dnd gaming? Are consoles gaming? This vagueness contributes to possible flaws in the data pool.

That being said, I haven't done my Statistics homework in over 2 months now, just fake it and scribble stuff, make up data when need be, and replicate psuedo-random studies whenever i'm in need of one at the last minute- so... I'm not really one to talk, just felt I had to let the hypocricy fly.

Why don't I do my Stat homework? I "game" about 25 hours a week.

I am an education and history major, therefore, I don't give a red rat's ass as to how many mathematical rules it violates. I just need 3 creds in a math.

Also, I am not claiming this is a sample of the entire community of gamers. It's suposed to be biased, as I am only including the population of SP. I don't care about all gamers, just SP.

I read that section of the book about Voluntary Response too. I pointedly don't care. As you should have seen in my first post, I chose this method because I didn't feel like doing things randomly (like accost random people on the street, or at the supermarket).

If you had read my second post, (the 6th one down) you would have gotten your clarification as to what type of gaming I'm interested in, computer gaming only.

Also, If you had read my any of my posts, you would have realized that my quota is filled and the assignment is done, so your whole hypocritic rant is all for naught.

Maybe you should pick up a pencil and tackle that homework, it'll sharpen your reading skills. :heh:

As it stands, you could use voluntary response AS a criteria in your findings. Those willing to come forward obviously don't care about how much they play and will therefore be more honest...

    I play about 2 hours a week.
