    I'm not an elitist - I'm an *sshole. ;)

    My commute currently is 3.5 miles to my school each way. 10 minute commute. I work from home - mostly freelance.

    Before I went back to school when I still lived in Houston, I commuted 43 miles each way every day. Houston traffic sucks the big one, so it usually took me about an hour and a half each way (45 minutes if I took a Houston tollroad called Beltway 8). It took upwards of 3 hours each way during my first year at that job, due to freeway construction. Grrr.

    My daily commute is 16.5 miles (each way) down country lanes, taking on average 35 minutes. It is just about possible to do it by train, but would take upwards of 2 hours. It would also be stupidly expensive (about £6500 per year) and would involve going in and out of London - about 65 miles.
    It is not quite the closest company requiring my skillset, but there is not a lot in it.

    Previously I worked in london with a daily commute of about 37 miles taking 90 minutes of walking/trains (each way). I miss being able to read on the journey, but that is about it. I'm saving almost 2 hours a day and I'm on more money.

    Public Transport seems to work for commuters into the big cities. I wouldn't have considered driving into London. Nowhere to park, the congestion charge, and the prospect of getting stuck in traffic didn't appeal. However as Brallrock pointed out, public transport in the countryside is non-existent. Even in the "wilds" of Hertfordshire.

    My partner previously had a 70 mile drive, taking about an hour and a half.

    Oh, and, er, my "From" is not an attack on public transport, but a song by the Fatima Mansions. Honest guv.
