Dogs neither. Especially if the comb is made from steel, which we would never use on ourselves...

We don't have fur - so it'd be considerably more painful used on us

Except Fel of course. Everyone knows he has fur

^It's what keeps cats (and most mammals) warm in the winter.

Brushes I used were not steel, though one was a soft wire that didn't bother me when I tested it on myself. FYI, it tickled the skin. Out of laziness, sometimes a hard plastic comb or human hairbrush got used.

When we got our big cat (Thomas) his fur was in an awful mess and he had to have some mats cut out of it by the vet. Anyone care to volunteer for brushing him? I still bear the scars from the one time I tried

    I live with three cats:
King Kamehameha the Great (M) 16 year old orange tabby (huge)
Indiana Jones (M) 14 year old B&W tabby (big, but lean)
Queen Lilliukalani (F) 6 year old B&W long hair (tiny and paranoid, smallest ball of furry death I've ever seen)
They all live up to their names, though Indy has grown rather kooky in his old age. Indy is the only one I can call mine, he and I have been best buds our whole lives together. I officially have 'favored human status' with him. He will ignore a whole room of people trying to pet him just to lie down on top of the couch above my head and be mostly ignored.
We washed all three of them periodically when they were young, but they should take over the job by about one year old. Lilly loves to be combed with a normal plastic comb, like humans use. This is one of the only times she relaxes, but she doesn't like us combing out the matts of fur that build up on long hairs. We usually just clip them out.
