    Fame doesn't always mean fortune so I would go with fortune. Then with my fortune, I can become famous if I want to.

    That's true. Just by giving million dollars to WWF you can get to news and thus become famous. If not internationally, at least nationally. ;)

    True. But in the context of the poll, I think the fame is more than 15 mins of fame. You donate 15 mil to WWF, you hit the news. 2 days later... who remembers you?

    I think the fame here is the sort of Achilles, Caesar, Napolean, and Neil Armstrong.

    That is the sort of fame no fortune can buy

    Depends of the investiment; if you have money, you can buy anything and if you buy the right things you can engrave your name to history. Besides, people DO remember quite surprising things even if the donation had been done several years ago. ;)

    Give me fame any day. If I had a fortune I'd 'squander' it on wine, women and toys (though not necessarily in that order) and would run out in short order but if I had fame, the women would squander their money an me and my toys! ;)

    I'd much rather be well known than rich as being well known tends to have better connotations in most people's minds than being rich, and fame can be used more effectively to improve situations.
