Kensai/Mage only rock if you play straight through BG1 into BG2.

If you want wild mages to be able to dual you can download G3 tweaks. There is a component that allows Barbarians and wild mages to dual class.

Wow, that's a very powerful and fun sounding combo Drew... where can I download G4 tweaks (coffee)?

Edit: I can't figure out the optimal powergamery level to do this dual class!?!?! Do you dual at level 13, gaining all the ApR a Barb will ever get, or do you wait until level 15, for an additional +5% resistance to physical attacks? If you go that far, would you go to level 16, for the extra Rage (for 4 total)? Well, if you go to 16, do you decide to go all the way to level 21 for just one GReater Whirlwind?

    LOL  :rolling:

I'd say elven F/M. The half-elf gets a little more HP - actually, since the bonus counts only on the fighter levels, and there the HP is cut in half, it should be around 5-6, and the extra dex and attack bonuses are useful if you are using bows, longswords, or

    ---Spoiler Alert!---

simply take the good road on one of the final SoA tests - there is an AC bonus drop from 18 to 17, but not 19 to 18, iirc).

Also, I think elves had a few more bonuses (sleep resistance, maybe better saves vs charm or the like) than half-elves.

True, you lose on Viconia. Hey, everything has its price.

You can get G3 tweaks at The Gibberlings 3. I like dualling a level 15 Barbarian over to thief. I wouldn't wait so long to dual to mage, though.

Drew, could you give me a more direct link, please? I can't seem to track down that individual mod., and I think I'd really like to try it out!

BTW, I think I'll go to level 16, for that extra Rage. It's immunities can be a lifesaver!

I don't plan on having too long a downtime, because I want to solo, and I use the no bottoms patch. I'll just hold onto every scroll and potion of genius I can find!

    Thanks!

on edit: I think I misunderstood. Will this allow a barbarian to dual class to a wild mage?

No. It allows both classes to dual class, but standard rules still apply for dual classing. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

You can create a Barbarian, then dual to mage and use SK to turn your mage into a Wild Mage. This should work.

But then how do you get the Wild Mage spells?

I've never seen scrolls in my games or anything.

The spells will be gained automatically, I tried to turn a Sorcerer into a Wild Mage, it worked (really silly but I wanted to test this) I didn't even had to add the spells.
Wild magic works for DC/MC Mages but not for Bards.
You could change a Bard's kit into Wild Mage but you wouln't get any bonus to your Wild surge rolls which is really bad (forget about Nahal's reckless Dweomer).

@Klorox: if you're bored Wild Mage is the way to go. Very funny and very powerful at higher levels!

Edit: I tried the Barbarian/Wild Mage thing. The problem is that you can have only one kit (barbarian is actually considered to be a Fighter kit), meaning that you will lose every specific abilities from the Barbarian (immunity from backstab) and the restrictions too (armour) still you'll keep the extra HP and the innate Rage; it is more like a Fighter/Wild Mage. Anyway it works: screenshot! The spells were added without any tampering.

I believe the most powerful class combo here is a dual Fighter/Mage. If you play BG1 and go up to Level 7 or 8 , which is 125,000 experience points. After you achieve level 7 or 8 as a Figther in BG1 you could dual to a specialist Mage and level your character up to llevel 4 and than transfer your character to BG2.

This gives you the extra hit points that you would loose as a multi-class fighter/mage and this also give you one extra spell per a level. Not only do you have the extra spell per a level but you also can become a grandmaster for weapons.

@Silevr Knight: Unfortunately what you suggest could only be done with BG1 (and the Fighter class would have to be inactive otherwise for this to work?)

A 13th level Kensai dualled into Mage is a good choice if you want some really good fighting abilities. Grandmastery is not that good in an unmodded game. For soloing purposes a Barbarian or Berserker's Rage gives great immunities (summons could be used as decoys though). Yet, in the end the F/M gets both HLAs which is a real advantage.

What level does a F/M go up to in the ToB?
What level does a F/M/T go up to in the ToB?

Have yet to install ToB on my computer and I have not played it yet as well.

    The level cap is 8000K
    F24/M20 or F18/M17/T22
You start getting HLAs when your total of XP reaches 3000K.

Mage 17 means you don't get level 9 spells (tough break).
Mage 20 isn't that bad compared to Mage 31 since spells are capped at level 20 (in fact you only lose some spell slots).
