    Me, I prefer Tolkien's Elf-worship to the "down-to-earth" approach I've seen so many times... so many "Elves" are nothing more but humans with poity ears! At least the Tolkien Elves are something more...

    Agreeing completly with Ara, often elves seem to end up with 'humans with pointy ears' syndrome.

    And Ara, pleeeease get into the chatroom. Rotku is trying to butcher the elves!

    I don't really approve of elves as 'humans with pointy ears'. In fact, they should be as elegant, as ethereal and as otherworldly as they are portrayed in LOTR.

    But they should preferably be dead!

    Alas, I read it only once, and that's two years ago. Tis a shame of me.

    I really should read it again, but then, there are so many other books to read(The Cleric's Quintet, the Avatar Trilogy, the War of the Twins etc. etc.).

    I've read LotR 5 times. First three times I read it in Dutch, but I started wondering how the original would be, so I bought it and read that 2 times in the last 6 months.
    I wish I had started with the original the first time, because it is so much better. Some books can be easily translated without loosing too much of their chram and beauty, bu LotR is not one of those books...

    Well, I think the translation of LotR to Finnish succeeded quite well... I wonder if it has anything to do witht he fact that Tolkien studied our language? I mean, some Elvish words have been borrowed from Finnish... like "tie" which stands for "path" in Elvish and "road" in Finnish...

    Gah. I am obsessed... not good...

    Though to be honest, I skipped the return to the Shire last time round.
    Hobbit was very good. Too bad it wont be made into a movie.

    I've tried to read The Hobbit and LOTR a few times but actually I found them quite boring.
    I think it's great that people get a kick out of reading them but I for one prefer something a little less black and white.

    Oh, and I feel the same way about the films...
