@DJ: Col. Blake got his orders to go home and shipped out. At the end of the episode (or one a few shows later, I don't recall - might have been after their struggles with Frank as interim commander), Radar staggered into the OR and reported that Col. Blakes plane had been shot down. Very shocking, very touching.

How many seasons did this show run? It had some lame episodes, no question, but in my opinion, it hit the mark far, far more often than it missed. Maybe the jokes don't translate well into Norwegian, Istari? I was p***** when they killed off Col. Blake, and when I found out why Maclean Stevenson left the show, I was just furious. You ever notice that the people who left never really were heard from again?

Just in case *anyone* actually cares.

Hojon dies in the movie. I read through the script, and you remember the blood that Radar draws from Col. Blake?

It was for Hojon. And if you look at the kid on the operating table, that Trapper is saying "We gotta shoot craps! Now's our chance.", it's Hojon. He got shot. And he dies after the operation.

Where everyone is playing cards, and Trapper says "I've got an Oklahoma"? The body on the stretcher is Hojon's. That's why Hawkeye has a tough time with it, and takes off his glasses.

Also, the chick that played Major Hulahan also played in "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield.

And when Blake was announced "dead", they sprung that one on the cast. The cast members didn't know the writers/producers were going to have him killed until they were actually shooting th scene.

The old cast was infinitely better than the new cast for plenty of reasons. Number one, however, is the dynamics with Frank and Margaret vs. Hawkeye and Trapper created a significant portion of the comedy. Unfortunately, Charles was not as good a foil for Hawkeye, and B.J., Trapper's replacement, couldn't hold a candle to Trapper. Potter was OK generally, but Blake was better. Also, by the end of the show, Margaret has lost her edge and essentially made up with Hawkeye.

The death of Colonel Blake episode was one of the all time best exactly because they sprung it on the cast.

The show itself, however, became like a rotting tree. It looked healthy on the outside even after it had died on the inside. My personal opinion is that Alan Alda got too much creative power on the show and it became a forum for his personal opinions.

Loved the show growing up, but will only watch it now if there's no Charles, Potter or B.J. (man I loathe B.J. - insipid Milquetoast).

Why did Maclean Stevenson leave the show? The episode where Trapper leaves was just on the other night but I wasn't able to watch it...so I don't know how or why Trapper left Korea, and I don't know why Maclean left the show. :rolling:

I saw it a few times and its funny, as fun as simple humor can get. It goes into the box with all the other slapstickish comedy shows. I just don't dig the whole concept of a people making a living by making comedy shows over war.
Its like trying to make bucks on a comedy on behalf of all the dead New Yorkers from ninth September or the terrors in and around Bosnia. Or the massacre after the a-bombs in Japan. Personally I find it grotesque. Sorry.
