To use Faragon's own wordings; Truth be told Faragon should put up a solid argumentation for that remark. I doubt he will. Or can.

I just think he mocks the old Star wars trilogy cause he is having a bad day. Or something else is bothering him. Perhaps he is in love with Princess Leia, but can't have her :shake:

Oh well as always arguments... Those arguments when speaking of "truth" Faragon...

Oops, seems I stepped on some fanboy toes. The little jabs, very cute

Actually, no. I've been having a great day! Bought a discount KISS cd, which is very nostalgic, and I had a great time with my exGF. Saw a caraccident happen, and had to put in a statement, which I hadn't done before, so that was rather interesting. But not that that matters :) And as for leia, not with that hair sister, yuck. Earmittons are. not. attractive. :)

If you don't find SW:4,5 and 6 enough solid argumentation, you will never find any, for that is what I drew my point of view from. Wether you agree with that or not, like I said, is the way of things, and doesn't really bother me.

Not really sure what you mean with that last sentence. Care to elaborate?

[IMG] All I am saying that movie critics often find examples and elaborate on any movie they either like or dislike. Movie critics who wants to convince others anyway.

For example, what exactly is this gonna prove? And why on earth is it even the truth? That puzzles me. Truth is quite a bold statement. And to top it all it has that clever looking smilie in the end. That quote is actually quite a pearl in non productive communication and debate. Star Wars or not is irrelevant to this. no offence :)

You can pull down any hailstorm on Star wars if you want, if it is your personal opinion and your examples and arguments are reasonable. Take Ragusa. He is doing a hell of a work to back his opinions, when he enters a debate with sharp remarks. Opinions he knows people will object to. A much more fruitful way of sharing ideas and thoughts, in my opinion.

Faragon, you're right. The only decent actor in "A New Hope" is Alec Guiness. Episodes V and VI are better, thanks to Lucas's withdrawal from the directors seat. The new ones are worse, thanks to Lucas's return to the directors seat. *shudder*

Voyager was mostly very, very bad, also. In TNG, only Stewart and Spiner were good; DS9 is the best series.

But I tell you something: I watched them all nonetheless. Because they all got someting.

Voyager wasn't that bad. Most of the episodes were fun to watch, but not spectacular. Voyager also had some great episodes, which I watched many times. In my opinion, Deep Space 9 was the best series, but even DS9 had some crappy episodes.

I started buying Star Trek tapes around season 3 of Voyager. From that time, I also bought all the DS9 video tapes. I have all the episodes after that on tape. I regret not starting sooner, for I would love to have a bigger DS9 collection. Luckily, I got my hands on the Way of the Warrior tape, and Trials and Tribble-ations, for those are legendary episodes. Maybe I'm going to buy all DS9 season on DVD.

Star Wars all the way! I've never watched a Star Trek episode fully, because I thought it sucked that much...

Well, as far as productive communication goes, yours wasn't all that productive either. And the smiley wasn't intended to look clever, it was intended to take the harshness out of the words. Without it, it would come off much more serious. That wasn't my meaning, hence the smiley.

I think you're putting too much meaning into my wording, and not enough into the actual meaning. But if this is the reply you want... Why is it truth? I consider that to be the truth. That's how I feel when it comes to StarWars and acting.

I don't think out every word I type, wondering how many ways someone could take it. I'm here because I enjoy talking with people here, not because I want to be captain of the debate team. It's beautifull that Ragusa is willing to put much time and effort into backing up his opinions, but when it's about such a trivial thing as StarWars vs StarTrek, I really don't feel the need to.

@ Reepnorp -- Horrible books from Star Wars??? Have you ever read any of the Star Trek books?? *makes face* There have to be about at least 760 books (multiplied by about an average of 300 pages each to equal 228000 pages) of complete waste of time, print, and trees. To explain, my sister and my Mom are both major Trekkies (it bugs me.) And yes, I've actually read a few. They really rather suck and are on my list of patheticness next to the BabySitter club books read by anyone but 3rd graders and younger. (No offense to anyone who likes them, I just think they're plotless and that 65% of the plots are so similar as to be suspicious)

As you can guess I prefer Star Wars over Star Trek. But this is mostly because I really like the characters (Hmm, Han Solo or Spock??) except for Luke, he annoys the hell out of me. I really do think he should die. And also the worlds of Star Wars are more expansive and interesting (IMHO). And although I agree that Phantom Menace was a huge dissappointment (and what was up with JarJar???) it really explains why Lucas went with the 4th episode first. He knew that Phantom Menace was lousy and that if went with that first, no one would ever really get into his movies. (I really liked Episode 2 even though no one else does) So it was pretty smart marketing on his side if you think about it.

In Star Trek's defence I did like the Next Generation episodes -- my parents used to watch them all the time when I was little. And Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg were really good. But seriously, the very first Star Trek ones were just too silly to seem even remotely real. Their special effects were really very pathetic and compared the innovative Star Wars technology. . .

So I voted for Star Wars and I still think that Lucas should create the last 3 (making it a total of 9) movies even if just for his own satisfaction (I really don't think he'll feel fully proud about his works unless he completes it)

Well Star Trek seems a bit more beleivable, I prefer Star Wars because it seems more modern and I like the idea of Light sabers! (critics sicken me whith their pathetic, childish, immature, even stupid and brash way of thinking...)

I have to agree with these. But Han Solo is still my hero... so Star Wars got my vote.

I voted for Star Trek. I was groomed on TNG and DS9 was a thing of beauty. *cries in remembrance* Ah, yes, Benjamin, damn good actor and handsome to boot! Mmm-hmm! but, let's face it, Patrick Stewart will always have a place in my heart. He was par excellent!

Amazingly enough, I can't stomach like the original episodes with Kirk and Spock. Weird, I know, but I just can't see having the Klingons as the evil race, especially since Lt. Worf was a wicked cool Klingon!

Not that I don't like Star Wars, because I do. I just think that Star Trek is better, not to mention that the prequels knocked off cool points for Star Wars. They should have just left it alone.

[IMG] That was a hard choice to make here. I voted for star wars in the end solely becouse of the Force and all the jedi.

I watched a great deal of star trek too. Almost all of them actually. And the whole Voyager... and it didnt seem that bad to me at all. Sure some episodes werent all that, but thats the way it always is.

Though there's still quite a lot of stuff in star trek thats unbelivable to happen. Away missions for example... bridge officers go to away missions  they're the most valuable members of the crew and they're allowed to go on some unexplored new stuff?
Sure there are scans made before that, but you know how many times scans show all there is about something :p

And the hierarchy and command of the ship is so inefficient (no doubt the borg would agree :borg: ).

:heh: i didnt realise there are so many trekkies around on SP :)

Between TOS and Star Wars was eleven years. TOS is from 1966, Star Wars from 1977. Technology develops a lot in eleven years. I think you can't compare them. Star Trek (actually all Star Trek series) was always known for it's advanced special effects and if you compare TOS with other SF material from the sixties, it actually looks pretty good.

Both (Series? Franchises? Universes?) are great -- they approach things from a different angle, that's all. I like to say that Star Wars is Mythology set in space, while Star Trek is actual Science Fiction. Both (???) have suffered in the past and present from some truly horrible acting (The original Star Trek with -- Kirk -- telling -- us -- about -- his -- mission still makes me laugh) but both have had fabulously innovative ideas as well. I have to go with Star Wars, though, simply because of the incredible power of the story in the first three films.

[IMG] Star Wars will always be my favorite, but I agree...They are two different animals. Star wars for me has always been about the fight between good and evil. I mean, who hasn't dreamed aboout flying around in an X-Wing, taking out the Death Star?

Star Trek has always been about people. People exploring the universe, and having personal journeys along the way. In a lot of ways, I've always hoped that the future will be something like what's in Star Trek. And I haven't really heard much on reviews of the newest installment "Enterprise," but I personally think it's a great show.

They must be hurting a little bit, because they dragged the borg into the series pretty early...When they should be getting deeper into how the war between Klingons and Humans began...But I digress!

    Star Wars! :tie:

Star Wars for me, though I've got to admit I prefer the world rather than the film (ie. I like playing the Dark Forces games).

@Faragon: I thought Liam Neeson(sp?) played a Jedi really well (though the rest were pitiful).
