    Chev, I have no problem with the elimination of those who commit evil acts, but I DO have a problem with the swiftness of the trial system -- there is too much possibility of an innocent person getting such a drastic penalty -- I wouldn't want to go to a place like Thailand because of the possibility that I could get framed or mistaken for a criminal and then end up dead before the truth came out. Not to mention the disease, poverty, and climate factors.

    I'm here now. Frankly I stand in awe, fear and respect of the Thai justice system. It's fast and it's efficient and I suppose you have to be in a country of 68 (I think) million people. I'm in fear because 'farang' i.e. white foreigners will get an even more harsh punishment than Thai citizens will for breaking the law. However I must respect it since it keeps the country in relative law and order. Sure, it's corrupt but it's 'stable'.
    Actually a month ago the king had a go at the prime minister publically telling him to not be such an ass when it comes to critisisim of the government. The PM brought a libel case against somebody for saying that the PM was corrupt or some such... after the King told the PM to stop being such an ass he dropped the action. The king has no 'offical' power but the people here respect him so much that if he asked them to take up arms and turn the country into a monarcy again... they would.

    It's a nice place to visit and I imagine it would be a nice place to live provided you've got a nice stash of money.
