The red pill.

It's always better to know the truth, even if it sucks.

 

I answered yes because of the reference to Matrix. For there, Trinity's saying (freely quoted) "You've been down that road Neo. You know where it leads", could not hit the spot more. And should someone say that to me at a point of a possibly great change in my life, I would probably choose the new path in stead of the old one.

But in reality, through all too many things I've come to learn that ignorance really is bliss. Many a thing that I used to believe in have become clear to me as the useless ideals that they are. Many things that I still want to believe in, are losing their meaning by the months and years. There is no true goodness or happiness, any more than there is evil or suffering. And the pointlessness of it all with no hope whatsoever to find any meaning for yourself in anything, is what gets to me. Truly, the naivéte of children is a blessing like no other, bound to end badly.

 

I just realized my starting post is incomplete... I managed to miss my own answer!

Red for me as well. For all my life I have wished that there was something beyond this world, something, anything... be it heaven or hell. So, to know it, to know the truth... it would be everything. Yep, red for me.

*thinks for a moment* On the other hand, if I got to meet Agent Smith, I'd probably forget any pills ever existed..:

Dang. That was quite an insight, Foradasthar. For the record, originally "ignorance" was the rule -- Adam and Eve didn't even know what evil was. It was the opening of their eyes to all the horrible truths of sin that brought death into the world....

OK, I know some of you will take issue with that, but just dismiss me as a religious quack and let it alone.

Thank God I'm still stupid enough to believe in altruism, and the happier for it. But I'd still take the red pill, even if I knew I'd regret the knowledge afterwards.

 

Red Pill ... for the following reasons:

• I get some kick ass shades
• I get one amazing trench coat
• I get to wear my favourite colour - black
• I can learn all the martial arts under the sun
• I'd be able to do all this flying stuff
• I'll get some bad ass weaponary!
• It'll just be plain exciting! And what more? If i'm with all my SP buddies?

 

Red pill for me. You can always do the stuff you miss by entering the matrix...just don't get noticed by the agents!

Red all the way. But why a pill? And, it might just be me, but a white elf looking expetantly from behind sunglasses in place of a black guy seems kind of strange.......

It's hard to tell. I mean, I've seen The Matrix, so I know what happens when you take the red pill. But think about this: Neo had no idea what he was heading into when he took the red pill. Forget all the cool gadgetry, the kung-fu, the reality-bending powers. Forget that the world isn't real. He thought it was some kind of organization or something. He had no idea he'd be leaving EVERYTHING behind.

...

But still. I think I would have taken the red pill. I'm the sort of guy who always assumes if I don't like something I'm getting into, I can get out. Not smart, but hey, I'm not always brilliant.

Can't wait till May 15th.

It's in the alley because I wanted people to forget about the Matrix.. I wanted them to think what if someone just offered them the pills. Just like you reasoned.

And my logic stands. I would take the red pill... because my life can't get any worse. And, to quote Morpheus, I have the "splinter in your mind" feeling all the time.

After all, we are all Plugged in Pod People.

In a heartbeat, Platyuous, in a heratbeat.... for the last three years of my life I have been institutionalized. My entire social life is spent online. My current "Best friend" is a dumb preppie who considers me her personal ATM machine. My family lives far away, my sister even on another continent, and you better believe me, the distance is only healthy for our so-called "relationships".

First off, I have not seen Re-loaded, so this post is based purely upon the original Matrix.

Most science fiction and fantasy stories are inspired by current events. Have any of you thought of the analogy of the Matrix and current affairs? With governments around the world moving to more socialistic forms, I just wonder, if you support true socialism, basically the government taking over your life and telling you what you can and can't do, own, be, say, read, think, and providing you with (controlling as well) all the necessities, food, water and medical care, haven't you already taken the blue pill? I mean, it is a lot easier to let someone else provide for you, and to not have to take responsibility for yourself, a'la the Matrix!

Maybe you don't support true socialism, you just want some things socialized, retirement, medicine, and jobs, whatever your zone of concern is. Where do you draw the line in that gray zone and say that at this point I have lost my self-determination? Again, the blue pill?

Personally, I hope I would have the courage to take the red pill.

True, it has been boring around here since the war ended and the only controvery we can get is political.

However, since I saw the Matrix for the first time yesterday (yes I know, sacraligous), and I would be ridiculed for starting a new thread, as this one already exists, I just wanted to add a little spice the the boards. Maybe I failed, but at least I tried.

 

First time yesterday! There could be a whole thread just on that!!!!
