Some us have not been able to get a few older games to run in XP: Myth: the Fallen Lords, M&M 7 and System Shock II are some examples of games that have given me problems in XP. It's true they are older games, but still great ones nevertheless.

    Greetings and

Myth can be made to work. Visit
    http://projectmagma.net/index.shtml
(Link to Fan-based group that brought rights to the games, + releasing patches from them, includes graphical upgrade to myth 2 graphics (requires myth 2)

And I say stay with the oldest version until its no longer supported then upgrade to one thats been out for a couple of years.

Well, I don't know I am perfectly happy with XP right now. All my games run well on it, Office is enough for me, Explorer do the job. Maybe if Vista doesn't cost Big big Bucks...

That's insane! At lest 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and a high end video card with at lest 256MB of RAM for the OS to run "well"?!?
That's :bs: if you ask me.

This version of Windows might end up being a pile of trash...but we'll see. :rolling:

You need to read the whole article. Those specs are for 64 bit environment, which most people won't be using anytime soon. At least not those lacking in the system specs department.

@Tal: Even the fanciest GUI running within a 64-bit environment doesn't justify the requirement for 256Megs of video memory, I think. In fact nothing I can dream of justifies this.

Hm I can already see the 2nd "please wait windows is installing" screen on the Windows Vista installer:

    "Windows Just Got Better!"

I'm pretty sure it won't be a requirement, but it'll be used if you have it... that's the point.

64-bit CPU's aren't that expensive. Bought one only a week ago, in fact, and as soon as it gains a bit firmer hold of the markets I will upgrade to WinXP 64 and some Linux. Vista isn't that interesting and, besides; Ubuntu Linux has scored really well in recent tests, is free, and doesn't have that big system requirments.

It's just a pity that it didn't install correctly onto my machine when I tried a few days ago... Back to the drawing-board. :(
