I spent ten years of my life bing byullied an the most unpopular person in three schools. Although I did have friends in Elelmentary school, I was still the one everyone walked over all the time, I wasn't considered "cool" or anything.

In secondary school, in two separate schools, actually, I was the single most unpopular person, and in the first one I was bullied by justa bout everyone, including the teachers and the principal, who hated my guts.

Now, I'm in Upper Secondary in another city, and what can I say? No one bullies me and I have a few friends, and that's it. People probably know who I am when desacribed, and that's it.

I like my life, thank you very much, and I will not strive tobe popular, seeing as all the fuss is bad for one's education....

Is it a popular thing to have a bunch of mates that join one in the bullying?

As for me, i'd say that I'm well liked ... not exactly popular. With views always differing, i'd say that its hard to be truely 'popular' person.

Then again maybe i can be considered popular because i don't get bullied concerning my habits, race, colour, characteristics etc ... except maybe by my sister ... then again, sisterly-brotherly love isn't alwaysa hot topic :)

I also think accepted is the better term. After a while you get accepted by the others though that's not a question of popularity. The safe way to make yourself look like an idiot is to try to *earn* sympathy and popularity - that never works.

So just be yourself (which might become a problem when you're actually an idiot - unfortunately that's the rule, not the exception.) I have made a few good friends in school, some others disliked me because I preferred books to football and getting utterly drunk (I started later on that). A pity to live in a world full of morons - either you become an alcoholic or a cynic, or both.

A few people tried to bully me when I was in school. They stopped after a while as it proved to be humiliating for them to be laughed at ... the tongue can be a cutting weapon - and if it fails to decide the battle, you still have a pair of legs ... or a fast wheelchair (mental note: never forget to be politically correct ...) ...

I have a couple friends...'round 3 or 4, but I only really hang out with one. I do get bullied a little bit but it's not too bad, generally some simple grass-throwing is involved. Nothing serious like gang bash or something.

If everywhere you go you attract 'morons' who can't keep their thoughts to themselves at some point one has got ask, what's the common denominator here?

There's nothing wrong with being popular, unpopular or going unnoticed.

Popular people often end up in jobs that fulfill their need to be social or utilize their social skills.

Unnoticed people often are good at working alone and don't seek approval to feel good about themselves. This is a nice way to go if you ask me.

Unpopular people aren't easy to peg. Many times all it takes is looking a certain way to become unpopular and get picked on. An unfortunate reality in life. But then there are those who are unpopular by choice. The ones who want to be the bad guy/girl, want to get into trouble/fights etc...All I can say about that is High School is one thing, but once you try to work your way into the real world (i.e. get a job) that won't go over so well. At some point a person needs to take responsibilty for their own life and well-being. The alternative is anger and self-pity.

Before college, I never switched schools. I was in the same district for all thirteen years. I was not popular, and I frankly didn't care. I always had a few good friends, and that's more important to me than having a lot of "false friends" or semi-good friends.

Starting in Freshman year though, I was usually able to get along with most people and was never bullied in high school. Nor did I ever bully anyone. I just never saw the point in it.

People go to school for one purpose, to learn. Perhaps some prefer the social part, but they are the ones that will never succeed in their later life. It's far better to have people like you for who you are than for some false persona that you exhibit.

As scamparella said, I can almost guarantee that your boss in the future will not appreciate you bullying other people and trying to be the "work clown". The unfortunate reality is that many people who bully others the whole way through school never learn any more mature ways to handle people, and they will oftentimes become a complete failure.

And if popular is being a criminal, count me out. I've got far greater aspirations than to wind up dead or living a street life that will get me into nothing but trouble.

[IMG] I can't care less for what others think of me.

Since these others don't give a peanut if I live or not; so I don't give a peanut if they live or not.

Plain, simple, fair, painful but utimately... truth... and convenient. You don't have to stand morons that bully thier way through life, you don't have to stand cowards who seek protection from their dorm's darkness, you don't have to stand what you don't want to stand, only what you are willing to.

If you are willing to submit to what others think of you; let me tell you that you murder yourself and surrender to being a puppet of other's desires.

"A doesn't like my hair"... so I change my look.

"B doesn't like Star Wars"... so I won't like it either.

"C likes drugs"... so I like drugs.

"D is a violent troublesome gangster"... so I become a violent troublesomne gangster.

And in the end you get what? Acceptance... First learn to accept yourself and then others can learn to accept you.

Grow up and be yourself; be it good or bad you must accept yourself, and if you want to change, change... but only because of you... not because you like being a puppet.

I was never someone you bullied, I never let them. :D I've been through quite a few schools and countries so far, and I don't get along badly. I would get along okay with pretty much everyone, there were a select few in every place I would get into fights with (and consequently kick the crap out of them). I'm not what you would call popular, I have ome scattered friends that aren't in my own grade, and a tight-knit group of best friends. With them I'm more of a leader figure than other people see me, but hey, they're good people ;) and they don't care that I don't listen to much punk or such.

Right now I'd say I have three close friends, one of them is Joy (who's the greatest person in the world), we're not apart for long. If everything else in the world crumbled, she's the type of person who would always be there. So there, I'm happy. And I don't ruin my life for it, so to all the idiot bitches with their hands down some guy's pants, "Get over it"

I would say that I am not "popular" in the way that some people are. I have a great group of friends and most people like me, but I never get invited to any parties or anything because everyone knows that I don't drink/do drugs. So I don't have much of a social life, and I don't like going to dances or most sporting events. I would rather just stay at home with my computer or a good book. I am really not one of the popular, hang out with the cheerleader type guys, in fact I think that most of those type of people are really not nice people at all.

Kids in wheelchairs are out of bounds. Not even the worst bullies pick on them. (Over here anyway).

    Not right there, maybe, Z-Layrex.

I almost had to cry, as I picked the wheelchair of a little boy out of the water! The ones who did it were about 20 years old. They defended themselves saying they had been smoking some joints and didnt realize what they were doing.
I told them that if they couldn't act normally after smoking, they shouldn't be smoking at all.
It wouldn't make them 'popular', either.

[IMG] Hmm, I don't know if I was popular in high school, but I did have a lot of friends! Even at different schools!

I had a crew of dudes I hung out with regularly, but I played football (American :D ), and I also moved freely between the jocks, preps, stoners, geeks, smart kids...I tried not to get tagged with being in any particular clique...So I had a lot of different friends, and a lot of fun!

In college (or University if you prefer AV! ;) ) I might actually say I was more popular than I was in high school. My girlfriend in college nicknamed me "the Mayor," because whenever we walked on campus, I stopped, talked or waved to 2 dozen people!

I knew a lot of people in undergrad! I went to the University in my home town so I had that base of friends, I played football again, joined the best party fraternity on campus (that may have been why I was kicked out freshman year...Don't worry, it all worked out fine! ;) ) and I worked at the biggest bar in town! When you combine all that - I ended up knowing huge numbers of people...Again, college was a blast!!! I always had something to do, and it was always with a different group of people.

But if I can give any advice to those who haven't quite gotten to college: Enjoy the time! Make a lot of friends! But also keep an eye out for that someone special! I dated a lot in school but never really settled down. Now, most of my friends are married, and I'm that "crazy single guy" that brings a different date to each social event. Not that thats a bad thing - but it would be nice to find that ONE.

Wow! A rant on Friday! Whoda thunk it! Have a fun weekend!
