Keep talking like that, dmc. I'm learning a lot of proverbs/sayings that way. :)

Always glad to help. Did you never listen to the Police? There was a song on Zenyatta Mondatta called Canary in a Coal Mine.

First to fall over when the atmosphere is less than perfect
Your sensibilities are shaken by the slightest defect
You live you life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

:) Sweet! My older brother listened to The Police, so I picked some songs up, but I never bought their albums, except for their Best Of. Maybe I can find some LP's for my Dual. :)

FINALLY done with those boring night shifts! Day shifts will certainly have a lot more action, and I am quite looking forward to it, the boredom was getting to me!

Boredom is bad for the mind -- turns your brain into pudding.

Yeah! Tell me about it! I'm without a job for about 5 months now (congrats to the Canadians here that got a job recently! :)), and at some times "I'm bored out of my skull", Murray style (Curse of Monkey Island).
Some good friends and family ask me when my book will be released. I'm not writing a book, but it's their way of telling me that I should. :p I can't cook anything up, because my grey matter is dissolving into a colourless goo. My brother had a good tip to improve my vocabulary, though. Read anything. Milk cartons, game rules, manuals, time schedules, washing instructions or even books, magazines and newspapers!

There are many illiterates on this planet. I'm someone who can read, but I'm too stupid not to exploit the ability.

Well I think you will find a job soon Mon :) It seems to be the atmosphere. Either that or you will write a book that needs to be written :).

BTW, I agree that boredom is bad. I'm thankful that boredom is difficult for me.

Just come back from a long week end camping (last Friday through today). Much fun, but I need a shower badly. It's a good thing smell can't spread through the internet :p

I would definitely buy that. I remember reading the adventure of you falling of your desk chair (and maybe one or two more of your short stories) and dude, you can really write!

So... when is your book due? :p

I really need one of those knife sharpener thingy, I was cutting meat for supper and the damn knife was so blunt I might has well have used a flint stone for all the good it did. Thing is, where might I find such a thing ? The supermarket ? The Home hardware store ? I really have no idea.

If you have a ceramic cup that's unglazed (i.e. rough) on the bottom, you could use that :) Sandpaper would work too if you have some and a flat surface.

I would imagine both hardware stores and supermarkets would have some form of knife sharpening device.

Thanks, I'll try the sandpaper I'm pretty sure we have some in the garage.

Not every kind is good for that purpose though (has to be fine) and you're likely to cut yourself using it, so I'd rather skip the sandpaper idea.

Find a good ceramic knife. More expensive, but they last and stay sharper much longer than steel knives.

It doesn't have to be really fine since you normally want a kitchen knife to have some "tooth". 220-320 grit would be fine. It's not like he's trying to sharpen a wood chisel or a block plane.

And yeah, you'd want to use the sandpaper as you'd use a sharpening stone; keep your fingers out of the way :) You want to put the paper on a flat surface (like a piece of glass or mirror) and then use it like a sharpening stone.

Yeah, about the toothy vs. polished edge... I've always been wondering if the toothy ones don't further micro-chip into the food with use and whenever you cut into something harder, so I prefer to avoid the possibility. Would stand to reason though as they dull much faster than smooth edges.

Fair enough, but a little extra iron in your diet wouldn't do you wrong :) But you will never have a perfectly smooth edge unless you use an extremely fine (1200-2200 grit) stone and then finish up with a polishing compound and a strop. But you'd only need to go that far for woodworking like I mentioned above, or maybe your straight razor where you won't be using a sawing motion for the cut. Since you saw back and forth when you cut using a kitchen knife, it's usually preferable to have a slightly "rough" edge. Not perceptibly so to the eye but just enough so you get a little grab when you cut.

:D Good friends and family. You're no family, but you'd have made a good friend if it wasn't for that terrible accent you have! :p ;)
Thanks for the compliment, though, good friend. :)

Talking about blunt knives: If my neighbour is gonna play that song (Wankelmut's remix of Asaf Avidan's "One Day/Reckoning Song") more than 5 times in a row again in the next 4 days, I'm gonna cut his puny brain out with a wooden spoon.
