I'm currently in my Europe: from 1815 to modern days class. I've never seen a teacher speak so fast! I can type pretty fast on a computer and without typos but damn even that isn't fast enough.

Who would've thought a human being can explain the Italian unification process under an hour?

Also, the bloody book cost 70$ ! In total I've spent 280 $ in ...

Free education, eh?

Ofelix, I'd rather have that than my lecturer today, he has a monotone voice, and sat looking at his computer screen while droning at us. That's far worse.

That reminds me of when I was very young and my friends and I would catch fireflies and squeeze there bottoms when they lit up and wear it like a bracelet. I would never do that now and I feel a little bad about the fireflies I sacrificed as a child for the sake of fashion.

 

I used to catch fireflies as a kid, but always released them unharmed. It was considered unlucky to kill one and seeing them meant it was harvest time. Rather fond of the little luciferin owners.

Flix: That's exactly how I felt when one of my teachers when through all types and stages of cellular death in 90 minutes... in mindboggling detail.
Tbh, I love her lectures and in general prefer teachers who talk fast - even too fast. Their lectures are easier to focus on, and much more fun then listening to exteremely slow, monotonous lessons.

The worst case are teachers with microphones who still yell at people and act like they are deities while explaining basic stuff. As much as I dislike that smilie... they deserve it. Being a professor doesn't mean that you can adopt an uncivillised/rude attitude to people. Thankfully, such teachers are rare.

 

Where did you grow up, Loreseeker?

 

That's one thing I do like about my college...there's no massive lecture halls. The biggest class I've ever been in had 35 students - the smallest was 3.

I don't mind the fact that we're being told a lot of thing quickly, but I do mind about the fact that I can't keep up typing notes on my laptop.

Fortunately I don't have any teacher who acts like "deities", whatever that mean They are all quite civilised.

Most of my teachers uses microphone since all my classes are those huge room and when you're in the back you can't hear a damn thing without the speakers.

Wow, the smallest class I've attended was 100 students and the biggest, like the class I was in this afternoon, had about 200.

 

a danish brand soon to be international, Zepto but i did not kick it actually, it just sat on top of it and then it sparked and started smoking.

on a somewhat related note do not buy anything from zepto as a general rule, it took me about 5 weeks to get a new, and i had to pay 200 kroners about 40$ to go and get it via public transportation.

and when i ordered the computer in the first place they sent it to another part of the country, not really a huge country but still

ION: i have found a way of living while being a student! i'm gonna be a medical guinea pig so i get to test out new diseases, EPO maybe some steroids and stuff like that, downside is i might have to get a few biopsies(spl?) done, i hear it's a *****

Flix: They all use microphones here too - the ones using them and yelling like they aren't using them + the deity act (I consider you fortunate for not knowing how that looks like ) are the ones I dislike.

Classes in amphitheaters here too - they can take around 300 people, although I've been to some lectures with up to 400 (students from several years attending), and since most lectures are only obligatory on paper (old programme) the smallest class I was in had three people - two girls from second year, and me from third. (It is a class for 300+ students, btw...)

Lab groups are much better - 15 to 20 people, sometimes a bit more.

I hope you weren't serious about the medical test subject news... but if you were:
While the practice is necessary and testing new drugs without it would be impossible, for which I respect all people involved in such trials, I warmly recommend that you reconsider your decision about becoming a subject.
I assume you are healthy and thus you would be involved in stage one of clinical trials - meaning that the drug in question has never before been tested on humans, just on lab animals and cell lines. It had to be cleared on certain safety tests to enter that stage, true, but still, the risks involved are.. considerable. (Safety in animal and tissue models doesn't imply satisfactory safety for humans.) There is a chance that the risks might be substantially greater then those projected. (The whole idea of stage one is to test the interaction of the drug with normal human physiology in healthy individuals, and thus, the side effects as well.)
I don't mean to lecture - but I'm a pharmacy student and have some insight on this. I would be happy to join a clinical trial for a drug if I were seriously ill and needed treatment - but I wouldn't do it in stage one, if healthy. Not just for money, anyway. (There are a few scenarios in which I would, but I ramble.)
Theoretically, the trial is probably quite safe. The margin of error on such assumption is, IMO, too wide for comfort. Just a friendly warning.

 

Just wondering, I had not heard of your custom before and it didn't sound American or European. That is sweet!
