Depends on how adult-only. If it's so we can indulge our risqué sense of humour and the occasional bout of swearing and keep that kind of stuff out of RBP then I'm all for it. If it's to have it turn into a porn channel then probably not. There's enough of these out there ;)

How would the confirmation system work? I don't know how the legalities of this work, but can't you potentially get in trouble if there's a system that's easy to abuse (such as "Are you over 18? Click Yes/No") and minors manage to make it in? The most elaborate method I can think of would be to have people send an image of their passport (or driving licence) with their age on it, but even then you have no way of knowing for sure if it's really them. I guess with long-time members it's easy to be sure (if someone's been here 8 years they're highly unlikely to have set a fake birth date back then just for this purpose) but what would qualify a "known members"? More than 2 years? One year? A few months?

That'd probably work. Though as the social groups act pretty much like forums now, there could be several "forums" inside with varying contents.

That's how I've always seen it done online... if it's good enough for online stores, I assume it works for us as well. Heck, Amazon doesn't even ask for any age confirmation before allowing you to access their adult items.

Obviously asking people to send in scans of their drivers' licences or passports would be way too cumbersome, not to mention that having access to such documents opens up another host of legal issues. So I'd probably resort to something like that only if absolutely necessary.

That's a good idea. I don't envy whoever would have to moderate these though :shake:

I didn't know that. If Amazon can get away with it then I don't see why you couldn't. With all the fuss that's made about adult over-the-counter products being sold to minors I always thought the "moral guardians" had thought of something for digital distribution. Apparently they haven't caught up with technology yet.

I also hadn't thought of legal issues with copies of ID. I guess showing your ID as you walk into a pub is one thing but having an actual copy of it, electronic or otherwise, is another matter entirely.

    Rule #34.

War is good for business? *confused*

(Probably not the set of rules you are referring to.)

What's the fun in it if we can't do that? :p And I'm also confused. What's rule 34??

It's cool for an adult social group. I didn't think we needed it, but I'm all for it!

Hey, this is my 500th post! Wooo! While that may seem very low compared to most regular posters, it's a highlight for me! :D

Or, this could be a private group, and the Admins/Mods manually approve would-be Rated-R.

Age verification... personally, I plan on using SP's Rated-R bastard offspring to Ziad's original idea... swearing, risque or plain controversial topics/jokes.

And truth be told, a Rated-R SP probably is the only place I would truly thrive. I've got to water down the stuff I say to remain within the "Family friendly" standards... and a Rated-R place to discuss would mean I no longer have to water anything down and can speak my mind freely, just for that and like I've said before, diehard supporter here.

I think the bigger question is: Who cares?!?!

We're not going to be posting images of porn...it's just going to be "adult" language...which from my experience, kids 8 and up swear more than I do. If they're willing to try to sneak in and read, "F***ing son of a B****!!!! I F***ing hate my mother F***ing job!!!!" in one of DotW's post, then who cares? Once they pass the waning (which, IMO should read: "Hey Dip-S**t, this forum is for adults only! If you're still wet behind the ears, get the F*** outta' here!") then they're on their own...

Tal shouldn't have to baby sit idiots who wander where they don't belong.

Brilliant. In a true Rated-R environement, you'll find out my swearing is strangely amplified to almost become a language of it's own. :shake:

I'll actually second that. Just make it a private group so not just anybody can join, and it should be fine.

Well, the word censor would still be in place as that's a board-wide setting, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about the asterisks any more. :heh: I'll come up with a disclaimer and run it by our legal team and we'll give it a shot.

Yesterday I helped in the most disorganised and confused move I ever participated in. A friend had to move two weeks early to another flat. When we arrived the larger furniture wasn't dismantled. Better still, no van was organised, despite the date of the move being known for a week. Her mother wanted to take care of the matter, and arrived with a car that was way too small. She said she'd get another, bigger one for the big furniture later the afternoon. We packed stuff into the small car, and to expedite things also in the cars of some other volunteering friends. Then we spent an hour or two waiting for her mother and the van. Well, she didn't get the van. Surprisingly, she then went home, instead of going to another car rental agency to get it there ... :thumb:

Along the way, my jacket, with my money and keys, somehow got sucked into the move mass, and was then transported to the new flat. It was there identified to not be part of the belongings of the lady I helped, and because of that, her mother, in another surprise move, decided to take it home with her. She lives at the other side of the city. It was at home that she opened the pockets and found my ID. Now, it's not as if she couldn't have found out at the new flat already, or for that matter, could simply left the jacket there, because, it isn't all that unlikely that it belonged to one of the helpers. Ah, never mind. A friend then drove me to her mother where I got my jacket. I then decided that I had invested enough time into the move.

It all was a little unnerving. But then, when I arrived home, a friend called and invited me for dinner and watching 'Watchmen'. Excellent movie that, btw.

Well, now that you mention that. After I bought the pen, I disassembled it and found a second reservoir.... empty and without a ball to keep the ink inside.

Fountain pens are fun to shake at other people...

I remember doing a "fake throw" behind my brother's back, fogetting that I had a fountain pen in my hand, and I got a streak of black speckles down the back of this white dress shirt. He deserved it...and best of all, he didn't notice until much later that day.
