I fear a substitute for Jaffa Cakes, called Pims, are more common than the real thing here...

I wonder what we would be talking about if the BoM didn't accept/use cookies.

    Pims ? We don't have those, least I don't think so :p

Well I guess you'd call it the greater montréal metropolitan area. I'm not technically living on the island itself, it's more like the suburb. Well it is an island too, just not the montréal island. And as for the god-forsakeness of it all, my fair city is known to be the most atheistic part of the province which is the most atheistic province of the country. So, yeah, I'd wager old Yaweh ain't too please with it, not that I care mind you. To give you an exemple; a couple years back a private group of investor bought an old church and converted it into a luxury Condo apartment. I call it secularism triumphant . see for yourself

Note; I'm not sure if street view is activated by default on links, but if not, see that church on the corner ? Yeah well it's not anymore.

Right around the corner here stands a church like that, bit smaller perhaps. It's changed into a club/pop-podium. Another church is changed into a mini-mall. I think Yahweh (who's usually worshipped in synagogues, not churches ;) ) can be pretty pleased to see a church converted into something a little less heretic than a temple to Bacchus or Mammon. :p ;)

Well, technically, Yahweh is also the Christian God, so he is worshiped in churches, but they usually just call him God, Lord, or the Father.

And I'm not sure luxury condos AREN'T a temple to Mammon . . . and depending on what other "luxuries" are available (I'm thinking anything to do with sex or alcohol), possibly Bacchus as well.

Nope - never heard of Jaffa Cakes here - guess its just not a Canadian thing. They look tasty though.

In other news I'm scanning scanning scanning old slides until I dream about them. So many images and scratches and dust. I love my scanner btw. If it could cook and had the right kind of plug-in I might propose.

Very true, and I should have known better...

    True enough, I suppose.

Sheesh... I agreed to every counter-argument to my post just like that. Good thing I'm not a politician.

Well I suppose some tenants could be engaged in unchristian activities, but it's not like it's a prerequisite to purchase an apartment there.

Edit: Wait, I just thought of something, they're condo, meaning you buy a unit not rent one. This means the people living there can't be tenants right ? The word tenant implies paying rents ? But I just don't know which word would be appropriate there. Help a Flix out ?

Well, Mammon is the devil of money and wealth, so it's not so much that they'd be involved in un-Christian activities, but that luxury condos are pretty much temples of wealth. Maybe not all the occupants (?? I'm not sure either) are consumed with wealth, but it's certainly the goal for the developers and owners/sellers/???.

"Occupants" seems right, maybe owner ?, I dunno. I don't think wealth is inherently "evil", it's what you do with your money that that determine its morality. We live in a capitalistic world, you can't survive without money, so in a sense everybody is concerned with it to a degree. Besides morality is an abstraction, it changes depending on when and where you live. What's moral now might not be tomorrow.

Aren't most churches "temples of wealth"?

Yeah, I agree that wealth isn't evil; but that's what Mammon is: the demon of wealth/money. So apparently some people think of it as evil . . .

I don't think all churches are temples of wealth, but enough are to make your comment funny, T2Bruno!

I guess it depends on which Christianity you're talking about; there is significant theological and practical difference between Protestantism and Catholicism. For example, the actual opulence of the Holy See. I guess it's not what it used to be, not since John XXIII's Vatican II and the Pacem in Terris* papal bull, but meh I don't know. Protestin' about the church's wealth and indulgence policies** was kinda Luther's thing. If he were alive today I'd bet he'd "occupy Vatican" or something similar :hahaerr:

*Look it up, it's a thing
    ** Also a thing
