    Happy Birthday, SleepleSS!

I am feeling great right now. I went to pick up my scholarship money from school, and it turns out I'm getting more than I had expected. I'll be able to afford to pay rent and bills! And maybe even afford to go on an archaeological dig in the summer! :hippy:

Wow, that is some pretty good luck you had there Laiwethel, I wish that had happened with my scholarship money back in my university days. ;)

The only time I have ever heard of that happening is with the various LCHF business scholarships last year – and that totally floored the various University administrators.

Yes I am serious, the LCHF doubled the annual amount of their four year continuing scholarships last year - not just for the new recipients but for all the students receiving them.

The university administrators' reaction seemed to be about the same as if a two headed monkey had walked into their offices.

Edit: For comparative purposes, the undergraduate scholarship that I held is still the same as when I started back in 1994. I don't know how long it has been around but I am willing to bet that the amount has never been increased.

Thanks, everyone! Fun? I'm planning on it. :) Somehow I managed to get the scholarship from the government, which I had asked to be considered for through my student loan. Most of my tuition had already been paid, so the rest of the money from the scholarship goes to me.

Now I just need to put some aside, so I can't touch it until I know if I'm going on the dig or not. That's going to be interesting.

@ Lord Garak - a 7 week archaeological dig on Crete, excavating an early Iron Age town. I'm currently filling out my application to join the dig. I just hope that I can go.

@ Laiwethel - Damn, that sounds like it would be really fun.

I have no idea what kind of work that would actually involve so there is probably a bit of the old grass in greener syndrome involved here but it certainly sounds a lot cooler than being able to say "I am going to be auditing a bunch of investment bankers." ;)

@ JSBB - I'm sure an archaeological dig is a lot more interesting than auditing investment bankers :p .

Then again, what's the weather like on Crete from the end of May to mid-July?

It looks like I'd basically be acting as an assistant for the field archaeologists and other specalists who are going to be on site. There are ten positions available for students, and it counts as a credit towards a degree. 7 weeks on a Mediterranean island in the summer, and get a credit for university while there? My idea of heaven!

    I'm such a geek. :borg:
