Time to do some modding. I'm contemplating putting an old Northbridge heatsink on the back of the GPU.

I typically end up buying presents for 8-10 people but invariably I need to get some people multiple items to get their total present to the appropriate level compared to others.

I'm going to be getting Jessica at least 5 things, then there's my mom, dad, the only cool brother that I like, aunt and uncle, 3 cousins, and probably a few other people I'm forgetting.

Oh yeah...we're also making gift baskets for all of our couple friends. Those who drink are getting a $50 bottle of booze along with the rest of the stuff...those who don't drink are getting a lump of coal. :rolling:

    Ahh, Christmas shopping.
I have done nearly all of it, and nearly all by mail at that (well, by internet and then shipped to me - I guess it's not quite accurate to call that mail). I compromise by getting one gift for each couple in my extended family and one for each child (up through college age). That still leaves me with 16 gifts, so I don't spend a great deal on each one. Also token gifts for a number of people at work, less than $10 each on those.

The stove is in, sort of. The cabinet work was more complicated than expected and they'll have to come back later in the week to do that. Now I'm running the oven each night to try to let the smell of new components burn off before I start the Christmas bread baking marathon.

    Babble! We're almost to 100!

Well, "'tis an ill wind, indeed, that blows no one any good."

The Writers' Strike may inconvenience a lot of people (and I support it), but it did permit me a brush with minor celebrity:

A gentleman came up to the salad counter while I was busy doing something further back in the deli, so I stopped and went up to him. As I walked, I noticed he resembled Robert Joy a fair bit. I rationalized that it might be a family member with a resemblance since he's got kin up here.

By the time I reached the counter and he greeted me, I was pretty certain it was 'Dr. Sid Hammerback' from CSI:NY. :) I kept my professional demeanour and answered his questions about our wares.

As we talked, I almost got the impression he knew that I knew and was trying to make me crack - he took his glasses off in that special way that makes you remember Sid! (I guess they're not just a character affectation)

We were both amiable and cheerful and he was nice enough to thank me by name when he went off to pay for his salad.

I guess he'd just gotten here since he wanted to see about heating it up - staying at a hotel room with no appliances, maybe?

Anyways, I really regret 'keeping my cool' and not being even a little fanboyish to him; I know Kuemper's going to brave the harsh weather and come over to beat me about the head and neck - she loves the show, the character and - most of all - those dang glasses!

My true regret is that I never gave myself the chance to ask "So did the writers/art department come up with the frames and you kept wearing them beyond the show, or did you already wear them and you brought them TO the show?"...naturally I came up with this about a half-hour after he'd left (he even ate the salad and a samosa at our 'cafeteria')

@ Rev - I remember you talking about your baking for christmas last year. Is it cinnamon loafs that you make? I bet they taste great :D. I wish we lived a little closer together and then I would suggest a baking trade-off with you.

Why is it that when I go Christmas shopping, I can't think of what to get for others, but I find more and more s*** that I want? It's not fair. Why is it so much harder to successfully think of others in a time when Generousity is preached fervently?

I second that! No new Grey's Anatomy show.

I got hit in the face by a ball when the goalkeeper rebounced it yesterday. Women paying for collagen injections are now insanely jealous of me. :D

It's making my days mix up. Friday is a big tv night, but I lost Thursday of last week because CSI was a repeat and didn't watch anything Friday, so Saturday was Friday. I know today is Wednesday because London Ink and Miami Ink were on last night (Tuesday). Thank god for cable. :thumb:

Horrible fever last night - sweaty AND chills at the same time (?) and even my knuckles ached with fire.

Didn't get much sleep and now it feels like the plates of my scull will fall off if I shake my head. ;)

Also had a minor sniffle last night, which has turned into a infrequent cough (which makes this headache explode :( )

Bleah; I'm goin back to bed.

 Why? It doesn't even have any games yet. You could have waited for six months and get Metal Gear 4, or one of the other two games, with the same price.
EDIT: Dammit, you're 5 days older than me. *shakes fist*

Dragonfly, yes, it's cinnamon swirl loaves. I've baked 7 so far (odd number because I had a batch where only 1 loaf had the swirl, due to other purposes for the rest) and expect to bake around 50 more by December 24. The 7 I baked so far were done with the dying old oven - THAT was a major pain but they came out surprisingly well. Now the new oven is in and I'm patiently heating it up every night after getting home from work to burn off the slight smell that a new oven has. Wish we were a little closer, too, and we'd have some fun in person.

Ooo, JE, that sounds, I'm sorry to say, a lot like the flu. Hope it's not.

Snow flurries were predicted here this morning but it warmed up too much. I would settle for a lot more rain myself.

    And to all: happy Hanukkah!

Babble bells, babble bells, babble all the way: oh what fun it is to ride on the SP babble sleigh . . .
