New Lamb of God is pretty good. I haven't listened to it enough to judge it properly, but my friend thinks it is more old-school thrash than their older stuff.

Do you like the old Maiden DoTW? If you do, why lyrics such as the following don't bother you?

The Mariner's bound to tell of his story
To tell his tale wherever he goes
To teach God's word by his own example
That we must love all things that God made

("Rime of the ancient mariner", Powerslave)

Excitement shakes me, oh God help me what have I done
    ("Killers", Killers)

I have a lust for the Earth below
And Hell itself is my only foe
'Cause I've no fear of dying
I'll go when I'm good and ready
I snatch a glimpse of the lights eternal rays
    I see a tunnel I stand amazed
At all of the people standing there in front of me
Into the paths of rightness I'll be led
Is this the place where the living join the dead
I wish I knew this was only just a nightmare

("Heaven can wait", Somewhere in time)

My point is that Maiden have always had lyrics that could be considered preaching, it isn't something new, if they didn't bother you then why do they bother you now?

Also, I don't know if Maiden are christians, atheists, pagans or whatever (after all lyrics about the power of good can be found in groups that definately are not christians) and I don't care about it, but as far as Maiden and their relation with organized religion are concerned, they have already made their views clear:

Believe in me - send no money
Died on the cross and that ain't funny
But my so called friends are making me a joke
They missed out what I said like I never spoke

("Holy smoke", No prayer for the dying)

Anyway, as Manilla Road say, May the lords of light be with you :D :p

I don't really like Maiden. I've noticed the preaching, but it was considerably toned down compared to the songs on the new album.

Worship the Devil? I'm a Pagan. The only reason while I dig Satanic death metal is the heavily anti-Xtian lyrics and themes.

Bah! Give me the original, horrible sound over a clearer remaster. Ildjarn, Burzum and Darkthrone all sound like crap and they still kick serious butt.

I could never get into the 'satanic' bands - they sound so contrived. The only band that gets is right is Venom.

    Give me Pagan metal anyday:

    Primodrial
    Waylander
    Finntroll
    Ensiferum
    Einherjer
    Virgin Steele (if that counts)
    etc

I really couldn't give two flips about the religion of the band, as long as their music sounds good. If I like it, they can sing about whatever they want.

Now, back to Tourniquet (argh! Evanescence!)

It appears that Century Media will release a dvd of Iced Earth's Alive In Athens at the end of October.

    Source

Any thoughts (other than the inevitable Iced Earth bashing)?

Iced Earth isn't bad, actually. It's not the same since Matt Barlow left the band, however. Alive in Athens is, ironically, playing in the background.

Sounds nice, I like Alive In Athens :) But one of the best things (apart from the new Iced Earth album that is) would be reunion of the band in the line up from Burn Offerings album

I think I'm beginning to feel sorry for Tim Owens- he isn't a bad singer, he has just had the misfortune of replacing two of the best ones around.

    @ Undertaker: If only...

Yes, Tim Owens, despite being a great singer (his solo album rocks! ), has this very bad luck of trying to replace the unreplaceble

Owens also did a semi-succesful replacement of the mighty Rob Halford... Demolition is a good album, despite the poor reviews it received. Hell is Home... now what's one hell of a song!
