Yesterday I worked to modify an XSL style sheet in order to have some new meta data attributes, and to my chagrin, it did not work. I changed the style sheet, tested - no change, rinse, repeat. I eventually stopped in frustration.

Restarting this morning after a night of sleep I found that not only it does work now, it would have worked all the time yesterday, had I only tested it correctly, and not against an old version of the style sheet. It means that I basically wrote the changes blind, and correctly :) A reassuring thing to know for an XSLT rookie.

[IMG] A colleague of mine had a list of 4500+ lines in Excel, and she wanted to have the double items in the first row marked. I did that for her, found 15 double items, and to identify them I added another column, and put a marker before every double entry. The idea was to edit the list, and then remove that marker and the excess column. Because I wanted to make editing the list easier for her I then used the filter to only show these 15 lines and sent her the file.

She was outraged, just outraged, about what happened to the other 4485 lines, since I, like, took them away, or some such. Witchcraft!

The boss' assistant is pregnant. Methinks when the [EXPLETIVE] takes a maternity leave, I'm going to have one last glorious taste of power before leaving this job behind to achieve my destiny... blowing [EXPLETIVE] up with high explosives.

It's always good to see that someone has goals they are working towards. ;)

...You will remember to take a video when you achieve your destiny? Sounds like it would be very good to watch.

Actually, I have two career paths. The Master of Explosives one, and there's also the more old-school demolition with this hugeass wrecking ball. There is a distinct possibility I just might take both career paths... to tear down buildings marked for demolition when I'm not blowing them up to bits with high explosives...like a symphony of abrupt and brutal demolition versus a slow demolition.

And yeah, when I finally achieve that destiny, the first big F'N explosion HAS to be filmed, to be preserved as an art masterpiece.

Rags, what is the guy saying?

I got my final slap in the face at work yesterday. I was promised I would be the one to assume the responsibilities of my boss' knocked up assistant... and yesterday, I got that promise yanked right from under me. I'm getting F'N BUMPED. By someone who is MY OWN FREAKING RANK, AND BARELY MORE TRAINED THAN I AM.

This is the SECOND TIME I get F'N bumped. I have been sick of this job for aeons now, and it was the glorious last taste of power that kept me motivated... but with that taken from me...

I happen to have a friend who works as assistant-manager at a Source store. This boss is well-aware of my vast knowledge about phones, as a matter of fact, he NEARLY hired me 2+ years ago. If he wants to discuss buisness, I'm going to listen. And listen good. And if he's smart, he ain't going to pass the chance to add my vast array of knowledge about phones... especially since cellphones have became an even bigger part of the stores.

This job would be a welcome relief until I finally achieve my great destiny. And I'm DEFINITIVELY going to take the class that's offered in the full middle of nowhere.

    /begin HEEL TURN

No more Mr F'N Nice Guy! I'm pissed off, HELLBENT on REVENGE, and the DEMON inside of me which I forcefully CAGED has JAILBROKEN, and I will not DENY MYSELF MY VENGEANCE.

You know when you call somebody and hear a ringing or a busy tone on the other end... is it possible to reverse it? I mean you'd hear a busy tone instead of ringing and ringing instead of busy tone. That might be a great revenge if you can do that on your boss' phone. :D

Appearantly the boss stood up for me and locked horns with his own boss about me getting more office work. I got told I am not ready to assume the mantle of responsabilites, but how am I supposed to be ready when it's the assistants that get everything, while me, as senior, am not much more than a glorified clerk, an emergency convenience.

No openings at the other job either. Looks like I'm going to have to grind my axe and bide my time some more... I am jumping ship as soon as I get a good opportunity to.

So, starting MOnday, I will be working the next 9 days in a row.

Yes, this includes working 12H overtime shift on Christmas Day. and pulling 8 hour shift on Eve, and another 12 hours on St. Stephen's Day, and then 8 hour days on both bank holidays.

    Shoot me now.

My colleagues on the floor have become giggly in their pre-x-mas mood and started to play practical jokes. They taped the door to the room of some (not so popular) colleagues, are currently lurking on the corridor, watching the door, trying to lure them out in hope of seeing them getting caught in the tape :)

As far as I can tell, alcohol is not involved.

Took 6 classes (1 over the highest suggested load) this semester. Burnt out on school. But I start casting for my next film soon! Yay!

I wonder if it would cheer you up any if I told you what kind of hours I am working these days. A lot of 80 - 90 hour weeks. I wonder, sometimes, how I keep myself going.

Anyhow, hopefully it will slow down for you soon. :)

My company is sending me to France at the end of the month for a few days. It wouldn't be so bad except I've never been to France and will be expected to put in ~12 hour days while there. At least I'll get to ride the high speed train and see the countryside whiz past....
