Don't those pre-generated thieves have extra skill points simply from racial bonuses? Wouldn't all halfling thieves get 160% points at creation?

There's a diamond hidden on the 1st floor of Winthrop's? (Guess who's gonna spend the whole night looking for it. D'oh.)

You don't get extra discretionary points by race; you only get specific points by race, and they're not even close to the three digit range. Check the manual, page 138.

As further comparison, let's take the best thieves you can get for each race (max allowable DEX), before discretionary points:
    Code:
    Race PP OL FT MS
    Human 25 25 10 20
    Dwarf 20 30 20 15
    Elf 35 25 15 35
    Gnome 25 30 20 25
    Half-elf 35 25 10 25
    Halfling 35 35 20 40
As you can see, none of these come even close to the pregens, since discretionary points at first level are only 30 for anyone to distribute among your skills as you see fit. Meanwhile, the pregens have more than 30 extra on each skill! Seriously, try creating a character with the same stats and I guarantee that your skills will be quite a bit lower.
It's a Star Saphire (better than a diamond; it's worth 1000gp), and it's in a chest on the second floor.

Oh, I'm aware of that. But people here spoke of the 'big shiny one' of Winthrop's _1st_ floor, and a diamond in a heavily locked container so I thought I had missed something. ^___^

I guess they wanted newbies to get around easily with the premade characters? :)

Nope. The only containers on the first floor of Winthrop's are a locked chest with a couple spells and some gold in it, and a bookcase with a dagger in it.

Several of the Premade's are pretty powerful in their own ways. but it's more muted on the non-thief types.

edit: had to edit. just plain losing my marbles.

When they level up, their stats become less impressive I think, that was my experience with the conjured party anyway (when you trick the game to recruit those members for ever).

The conjured ones are a whole unique creature that aren't the same as the pre-made PC's that you can use instead of making your own char that come with installing the game.
