Just seems a little extravagant to go to all that trouble to imprison one avatar. Like you said, avatars aren't normally *that* powerful.

Is Demogorgon still a power in 3rd edition, or is he back to being a regular demon lord?

@Aldeth: They know Demogorgon is dead and they are upset, but blame themselves. They will then apologize to the PC, but the PC doesn't have to accept the apology (in other words he can attack them instead). The PC can also just be belligerent from the start and they will turn hostile.

And I assume that the not accepting thier apology is where the "killing them" comes in.

@Prine: I think it's important to point out that Helm sees a picture bigger than just Faerun. If he can imprison all of Demogorgon's avatars then Demogorgon is no longer a threat to anyone. From a Faerunian standpoint, it makes little difference whether Demogorgon is imprisoned or banished, but I doubt a God would see it that way.

@Aldeth: basically, yeah. It's been a while since I've played through WK, so the dialogue options are a bit fuzzy, but that's the general gist of it.

Last time I checked DG was not a god in any sense. He is the most powerful demon prince but is actualy one of the farthest away from gaining divinity. Other slightly less powerful demon princes are closer than he was according to the Book of Vile Darkness. This was becuase his two heads constantly plot against the other. Also any demon killed by a mortal can not return for 100 years or until released by his slayer to come back earlier.

In my oppinion kill DG as he is fated to be released to think you can keep one of the largest forces of chaos and evil contained I think is pure folly. If you destroy him now you prevent any chance of return for 100 years. Next DG is virtually impossible to summon. If it was possible to summon him in any normal way Demon princes would be everywhere running amok killing everything.

I heard he was worshipped by the Ixatychl or something.

But it probably depends on the campaign setting. At least, I think he's supposed to be a god in the FR setting, or was, or whatever... can't keep track of all the different rulesets and stuff.

it would be funny to make mod that gives possibility of freeing Demmy. I would enjoy seeing him massacring Antkathla or something like that. Just something like Planar Sphere mod.

That would be definitelly cahotic evil option } :) .

Well, that assumes the first thing DG would do wouldn't be slaughtering the PC like a hog. A CE character would probably only do that if they knew they could keep DG on a leash.

Freeing Demogorgon wouldn't really work. His first act once freed would likely be to kil you.

Or, maybe Demogorgon would just shapeshift into a man and wander the countryside for a few years, enjoying all the sights and sounds of the natural world. I mean, the Abyss must get terribly dull and routine after a few eons.

Well, you could settle for the next best thing. This idea is compliments of Fel, and I must admit next time I play evil or chaotic neutral, I'm definitely doing this. On your last trip to the Copper Coronet, before leaving for Suldnessalar (when you're sure you won't ever have to go back again), gate in a Pit Fiend right before you leave the place. High comedy.

Sorry, but this one isn't mine. I've never let Pit Fiends loose on anyone; I prefer to be more hands on.

Is it not possible to just CLUAConsole demogorgon into the heart of Athkatla... you could just pretend that you tried to seal him in and the scroll was messed up

Very interesting discussion...I think the best thing to do for a good character is a sort of "damage the force of evil and give strenght to the force of good". So, in this case, i think that (by a Faeruinan point of view) it's best to go to the Helmites and tell them the truth. Seal Demogorgon and let the Helmites suffer for the remorse of doing such an evil action. I think remorse for the rest of their lives and then the judgement of Helm is be the most evil thing you can do them from a "goody" point of view.....

My game once messed up, when I entered WK area Demmy was outside. He just stood there with Pontifex(?). Pity I didn't try to kill him or lead to those Helmites I reinstalled instead. I don't know if there were two of them. So he had atleast chance to go killing spree but he preferred to drink tea with Ponty.

Whoops, sorry, my bad on the false citation. Still, I maintain it IS pretty funny to gate in a pit fiend right before leaving the CC.
