    Using monsters and spells in the ways mentioned is just using good tactics, not "cheese". I dont understand why people think that it is cheating. If you werent supposed to be able to do it, it wouldnt work.

    Good point David.

    However, hopefully them Illithids don't have a dispel magic! And hopefully it makes the almighty braindrainers crack under pressure that even if they had a dispel magic, they'd be too cracked to use it! :D

    @Shadow Steele
    The one reason why its considered cheesy is AI. If real folks were playing monsters, then it wouldn't be a problem. But the enemies just stand there while the spell is killing them. There are a lot of things that can be done, and would not be cheesy, but AI makes them so.

    Sending summoned monsters forward to kill&die for you is not cheesy. As you've seen the enemies, and estimated it'd be hard to fight them, you retreat and summon help. You send it forward to exhaust the enemy, and then go on yourself to finish it off.

    Cloudkilling a room and closing the doors would not be cheesy either, if your fighters could manage a strenght check to hold the doors closed. If there're giants&umber hulks on the other side, then it isnt likely. In this case the monsters would bust the doors open and fight you. But AI doesnt do that, so it's cheesy.
