Except for a size 12 would probably be classed a #2. Average size (at least in the UK), is size 16. (If they're using UK and not US sizes)

Well, I have learned something new. There definitely is a difference between how sizes run in the US and the UK. In the US, size 16 is definitely not average. In fact, size 16 starts the "big" sizes for lack of a better term. Stores that specialize in clothing for big or tall women start at size 16. In fact one such store is actually called "16+".

I don't know if there's a 1-to-1 conversion in sizes, but it sounds like a UK 16 would be about a US 10 or 12. In the US, a size 16 would probably rate as #4 on the scale. I would consider size 6-8 to be a #2 and anything less than 6 to be a #1.

EDIT: Quite honestly, I don't know any adult who wears less than size 6. It seems to me that most sizes under 6 are for teenaged girls. To be less than a size 6, you'd have to weight less than 100 pounds (about 45 kg), and there are very few women who fall in that category.

It appears to vary - some website say the difference is 2, some say 4. As this is appears to be from the Mail on Sunday (English paper), she's either a US size 8 or 10, and definitely thinner than "average".

Sophie Dahl, in anyone remembers, made headlines as the first (and only) "average" size 16 (UK) supermodel.

    Models are for women.

    Porn-stars are for men.

    Examine both (as I have.)

Cuch, if you read the article they say she is now a similar size to normal fashion models (Size 8 ish). Not healthy, as she has had a number of colapses. There is a youtube video "Sophie Dahl circa 1997" which shows her at a larger size.

A certain amount of fat on a woman does indeed help during pregnancy and also makes her more fertile. Super-skinny women are often infertile and have their cycle all messed up (if they get periods at all). Probably why men -- historically at least -- have favored women with some meat on their bones.

That said, an overweight woman is less fertile and also will have irregular periods.

Sweet, that means that I can eat more than I already am (which is already a considerable amount) as I am 1.80m and only 64kg. Been a constant 64kg for about 3 years now (Oh the wonders of having a great metabolism) though I will probably put a bit more weight on in the form of muscle in the coming months as work is starting to get more frequent.

But back on topic, I am in agreeance with everyone else on the boards in that I prefer women with a little more meat instead of one with cheesegrater ribs and arms and legs as thin as twigs that look like they could snap in a 5 knot wind. Also, I do prefer taller women as well as I am already 6 foot and still growing.
