    No.

Yes, and though I'm generally pro-military, this doesn't really seem like a problem that's crying out for a military solution. Maybe some sort of sanctions against the Ivory Coast, like a ban on coco sales? Or possibly some sort of high tariffs on Ivory Coast coco, to make it unprofitable to use it.

While tariffs or bans on IC coco would most likely cause an increase in cost for coco, it would not be an action that is effectively "blaming" the coco using companies (though it will hurt them a bit more than likely).

I don't like any "solution" that in any way places the blame on the coco-using companies, unless one can find hard evidence that they are complicit in this slave trade... in which case, they should probably find themselves in some serious legal troubles.

    See #2...

Frankly, I haven't eaten much, if any, chocolate in quite a while, and this wouldn't stop me. I don't blame the companies. I blame the slavers.

Not a chance. The companies are behaving properly in seeking to use the least expensive coco available. It's the slavers who are at fault here, and secondarily, the Ivory Coast for not doing more to stop the slavers.

    No opinion.

[IMG] I just found this and was wondering if it was a relevant interest here. I got it from a banner ad while browsing a UK tv site (Channel 4 had a petition I was asked to sign)

Interesting link 8people. I wonder what we are to make of this, they don't mention slave or forced labour but they do advertize Fairtrade Kit Kat.
