I have run my world in around 5 years now. Oh boy has it been that long

I like Your initiative Devine Shadow. But be carefull not to dwell to much in details when You construct the regions. Don't start off with everything in one region. It will easily get too ambitious. And You get stuck halfway of boredom.

I started to detail out every semi-major person in one of my regions the first year. Instead of making the backbone to all of them. The project ended in hopefull ambitions. which equals nothing.

Actually it doesn't matter to choose FR, Greyhawk, speljammer etc. Your players won't notice that You mix worlds like crazy, if Your world is well-structured. My world is a mixture of everything except from spelljammer. I have designed most my cities myself. But the capital was too vast a work for my likings so I "imported" Fritz Leiber's "Lankhmar". VERY nice city. Endless amout of adventures and peoples and intrigues in the source books.

Once You have the entire backbone to Your 8 regions, add lots of persons and their mutual problems. What and who they hate. alliances. Their achilles heels and so forth. and slowly but steady adventures will start popping up. Don't worry about making adventures for Your group untill now.

When Your adventures starts running in Your mind, then, and first then, I advice You to start making a detailed map of Your regions. And especially the one they start in.

I have just written by the fly. I hope You can use some of it.

NOTE. If You plan on using 3rd edition rules later on, then DON'T. It is way to timeconsuming to upgrade. Better to throw those AD&D books away for good. Or keep them forever.I speak of experience. sadly.

EDITED HERE: Nothing wrong with a little Ravenloft blend in some or one of the regions. Spoooky business. Scares people. PCs like to be scared.

[IMG] Nobleman, I think your comments are on target. Don't over create any section at the ocst of the others. Good point about scaring players. I think the best and most memorable adventurees I played in where the one's that scared me. But as for your note of 3E rules I disagree. First, I'd use 3E right from the start. 3E is a better system (opinion only) than 2E. And if you don't have 3E books now converting a world is some work but not impossible. The rules are more for playing than the setting. Converting NPCs will be your biggest job if you have done up stats and all for them. The most important things the "idea" and the "plot" are still the same weather you are using 2E or 3rd.

[IMG] I can't agree more Voltric!

My problem was/IS excatly all the NPC's. Oh holy sant Mary  5 years of NPC's. some dead by the course of the PC or age or their own quarrels, some left behind forever. But awwwww there are many with whom the players can still interact. The worst part is that I have printed pictures of most my NPC's. It makes it easier for the PC's to seperate/remember them. And all my stats are written on the same piece of paper. But one day I might find the time to convert(time=money+time)

But my players and I are perfectly satisfied with the rules of 2nd edition and the gameplay is great for us too.

    Happy happy joy joy ;)
