OK. Walking in Memphis. I know Cher sang it but I think it was written by a guy.

    Good enough?

That guy was Marc Cohn. The original song by him is just beautiful.

But I'm just being nitpicky, I don't need the turn.

Man, I really don't like Cher (notice I put "blue as a boy can be")....

Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn -- it was recently covered by a country band (also not nearly as good as Cohn).

I'm not picky, DMC or Mesmero -- whoever comes on first -- take the next one.

I don't wanna live here no more,
    I don't wanna stay

    Quietly fading away

Wow, that was fast. I know it wasn't much of a challenge, but I really like that song.

Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is correct.

The song isn't bad, but when you have already heard it a gazillion times, you sometimes get tired from it. But it is still a classic of course.

Anyway, it is that time of the year, so I'll post some appropriate lyrics:

Each time I remember the day you went away
And how I wouldn't listen to the things you had to say
I just break down as I look around and the only things I see
Are emptiness and loneliness and an unlit Christmas tree

Nope. And I thought this one wouldn't be too hard.

EDIT: Well, maybe it isn't easy for the American visitors of SP, because as I understood it, this band isn't really well known at that side of the big pond. But I did expect it to be a bit of a softball for a Brit.

EDIT again: As there aren't any takers, I'll try to make it a little easier. This band had their biggest hits in the mid 70's. Even though they are English, imagine the lines I gave you are sung by Elvis Presley.

Well, just in the interest of bumping this:

The Beatles - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

(I know this isn't right - I don't think they even recorded this song - but the 24 hour clock starts now. :p )

You're not getting away with it that easily. ;)

As a last attempt, I will post the beginning of this song. If it isn't guessed within 24 hours, I will post some new lyrics to get this game rolling again.

Try to imagine, a house that's not a home
Try to imagine, a Christmas all alone
    That's where I'll be
    Since you left me
My tears could melt the snow
What can I do, without you
I've got no place, no place to go

I'm certainly not posting a Christmas song ever again.

    I'll be lonely this Christmas.
    Without you to hold...

Heard it played in the shops over the weekend & I guess the song is "Lonely this Christmas" but, alas, no name for the band.

The band was Mud, but your answer is good enough, I'm just glad somebody got it. It was a number one hit in England and Holland in 1974, and probably in other places in Europe as well, so I didn't think it would take this long for somebody to get it.

Can't say I've heard of them, and "74 was before even I was born.
I resisted the temptation to put another Christmas song in.

    She'll provide you with drinks
    and theatrical winks
    For a sky-high fee

and her skirts were in style
when she danced down the aisle
    Back in '63

But it's hard to get by
when your arse is the size
    Of a small country

OK scrap that one, it was National Express by Divine Comedy.

Lets try a Christmas themed one instead.

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me
    Boo doo bee doo

Well, I think the song is Santa Baby (or something like that), but as to the artist, the only one I can think of is either Cyndi Lauper or Madonna (I'm not sure which one - it's on a Christmas compilation album), but that's as close as I can get.

Orriginally sang by Ertha Kitt, but Madonna's version was a lot better.

    You're up Splunge,

    Merry Christmas ho ho ho.

    We skipped the light fandango
    Turned cartwheels ’cross the floor
    I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
