British band, which has one leg in progressive rock and one leg in glam rock with some influences from folk music. They released their first album in 1973 and they hit No 1 in british charts in 1975 with a song that it has been covered in almost every language in the world and it was included in the soundtracks of "Velvet Goldmine" and "Full Monty". The above lyrics are from a song which is included in their first album.

Different, I recognised the quote but had to google for who used it for a lyric. I'm not sure many other members will have heard of the er... musician.

    Here's some hints
    1. The vocalist was the original gonzo journalist
    2. The track is about one of the most infamous americans
    3. The artist is a british DJ

Well the bit in ***'s that I got without google is "Richard Nixon" Maybe that will help some of the Brits.

    You rang, milord? :D

Basically, this is one of those I'm-sure-I've-heard-it-somewhere-but-I've-no-clue-where ones, which has had me :bang: ing since it was posted. I'm 90% sure that Zane Lowe is the Gonzo dude (my MTV watching went downhill after Donna Air left Select :p ), but this has got me no nearer to the answer. And the only Nixon-related thing I can remember is The Love of Richard Nixon by the Manic Street Preachers, and DJs they ain't.

I could name some British DJs, though, if that would help...

Fatboy Slim, Danny Tenaglia, Dave Pearce, Trevor Benjamin, The Chemical Brothers, that bloke from The Prodigy... Any of those?

EDIT: almost forgot Paul Oakenfold! :shake: Seriously, if it's not one of them, I'm right out of ideas, frankly.

I didn't think this was going to be that hard since I thought there's bound to be at least one person who's into dance music as much or more than me.

Yep the infamous american is Richard Milhouse Nixon
I said the original gonzo journalist which means he wrote during late 60s early 70s mainly for Rolling Stone (was played on film by Johnny Depp) and committed suicide this year
And the DJ is in the Magpie's list

But if you wish to ignore the dance one and have an easier time try this:

I'm losing on the swings, I'm losing on the roundabouts
Too much, Too soon, too far, to go,
too late to play, the game is over.

Obviously I'm being too obscure for people so I suggest carcaroth takes over as he got Nixon right.

I'll just fade to grey - ciao

I'm hijacking the board cause Carcaroth is not posting.
    Acting like a robot
    Its metal brain corrodes
You try to take its pulse
    Before the head explodes
    Explodes...

Sorry dude, it seems like it was just a matter of mere seconds.

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes
Talking 'bout good times and singing the blues
