The song that always gets to me is You're Still The One from Shania Twain.

There are many songs, which have touched me in certain periods of my life (i.e when I was in the army, it was "Military Man" by Gary Moore) but the song that always touches me is "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd. It brings on my mind memories of lost loves, old friends etc.

i'll go with mystras flow here and stick with rancid... Axiom is a good one, i dont really pay attention to music lyrically, but the music is just absolute passion... the same goes for Otherside, and quite a few songs from the LFATB album, although that aint rancid.

[IMG] I saw a singer/songwriter in Philly this weekend named Phil Roy. I even got to meet him. He has one song that really kind of struck a chord with me: "Hope in a Hopeless World"

I don't have the lyrics, but it's a great little tune...But he's more of an independent/folksie songwriter, so it may not be for everyone.

The solo from "Stairway To Heaven" really drives me to play my guitar better (I can play it... sort of). After that I have to listen to something bluesy for some reason.

When I look into you eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
    'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
    In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
And no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
    Walking away
If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
    I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
    All mine
So if you want to love me
    then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
    In the cold November rain
Do you need some time ...on your own
Do you need some time ...all alone
    Everybody needs some time ...
    on their own
Don't you know you need some time ...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time ...on my own
Sometimes I need some time ...all alone
    Everybody needs some time ...
    on their own
Don't you know you need some time ...all alone
    And when your fears subside
    And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
    So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
    'Cause nothin' lasts forever
    Even cold November rain
Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
    Everybody needs somebody
    You're not the only one
    You're not the only one
    November Rain GNR

Annabella's Song by Everclear is touching IMHO. The lyrics may not look like much on paper, but the music that goes with the lyrics makes it fairly sad and sweet, almost bittersweet.

"I see you roll your eyes
You know it makes me smile
You are like the sun to me
    Bright as liquid fire
    I feel so powerless
To hold you up above the world
You are quite a lot of trouble
    Such a pretty little girl
    Such a pretty little girl

    You know I'm never home
I'm always miles and miles away
I feel I'm runnin' out of time
Say the things I need to say
    Call you on the telephone
You will not talk to me
    Yeah you just don't understand
    You are my everything

    Anna, Anna
    Tell me what you want
    Tell me what you need
Anna, Anna, you are never alone
    You are never alone

    Anna, Anna
    Tell me what you want
    Tell me what you need
Anna, Anna, you are never alone
    You are never alone

I like to watch you play
When you don't know I'm there
See you in your sleep at night
Reach out and touch your hair
    I wanna make this world
Be just how you want it to be
    Yeah you just don't understand
    You're my everything

    Anna, Anna
    Tell me what you want
    Tell me what you need
Anna, Anna, you are never alone
    You are never alone"

My favorite song of all time is Jimmy Webb's "If These Walls Could Speak" (sung by Amy Grant). I spent a fortune (well, relatively speaking) on Ebay to find the piano music. The song makes me dream and smile, grieve and remember - the way only poetry, piano, and perplexity can play.

    If these halls could speak...

They would tell you that I'm sorry
for being cold and blind and weak.
They would tell you that it's only
    that I have a stubborn streak -
    if these walls could speak.

They would tell you that I owe you
more than I could ever pay.
Here's someone who really loves you -
    don't ever go away.
That's what these walls would say.

The King's Singers' treatment of Jimmy Webb's "Witchita Lineman" takes a close second.

Leonard Cohen's your man for moving songs. The one that brings a lump to my throat every time is one of the French verses of 'The Partisan':

J'ai changé cent fois de nom
    J'ai perdu femme et enfant
    Mais j'ai tant d'amis -
    J'ai la France entière.

G n' R's november rain is kinda touching..
but one of my alltime favourites is:
    The Cure - Love Song

"whenever i'm alone with you you make me feel
like i am young again whenever i'm alone with
you you make me feel like i am fun again

however far away i will always love you
however long i stay i will always love you
whatever words i say i will always love you
    i will always love you"

that one I dedicate to my dear Love :)

and ofcourse Silverchair's songs, nearly all.
But one that steps out of the others:

    "Make room for the prey
    'Cause I'm coming in
With what I wanna say but
    It's gonna hurt
    And I love the pain
A breeding ground for hate but...

    I'm not, not sure,
Not too sure how it feels
    To handle everyday
Like the one that just past
In the crowds of all the people"

    Silverchair - Miss you Love

    and something I'll always remember:
    Live - Dolphin's Cry

"the way you're bathed in light
    reminds me of that night
god laid me down into your rose garden of trust
    and I was swept away
    with nothin' left to say
    some helpless fool
yeah I was lost in a swoon of peace
you're all I need to find
so when the time is right
come to me sweetly, come to me
    come to me

    love will lead us, alright
love will lead us, she will lead us
can you hear the dolphin's cry?
see the road rise up to meet us
it's in the air we breathe tonight
love will lead us, she will lead us"

sigh i'm all tears again listening those :)

+ I have so many else that I can't even remember them all

    Olive - You're Not Alone
Massive Attack - Teardrop (I remember writing a song to my ex while listening this and crying, of love that was :) )
Finnish Song: Ismo Alanko - Extaasiin
I wish I could translate the lyrics, but it'd be blasphemy against music if i'd tried. I'm sure all finns get that one's idea.

Dispatch - The General (always remind me of my dearest friend there is, To Olli, where ever you are, I still miss our conversations :) ..You know you're a Brother to me:) )

A Perfect Circle - Orestes (Ah the sweet painful emotions come rolling in and tucking me to the cloak of shadows)

+ many, many more which i've lost/forgotten for now.

There is a song by Evernescence (Evervescence as I like to call them) called "My imortal" which features the lead singer singing her guts out with the piano as her only backup. That song is beautiful, even without listening to the words, but just by listening to the raw emotion. It's so damn sad it makes me wan't to cry everytime I here it.

So many songs I could probably list, but these are the two I decided to share.

    (Bed of Lies)

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So Toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
    I am

Don't think that I can take another empty moment
Don't think that I can take another
    hollow smile
It's not enough to just be sorry
    Don't think I can take
    another talk about it

Just like me you got needs
And they're only a whisper away
    And we softly surrender
    To these lives that we/ve
    tendered away

No I would not sleep in this
    bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And they'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
    I am

Don't want to be the one who turns the whole thing over
Don't wanna be somewhere I just don't belong
Where it's not enough to just be sorry

Don't you know I feel the darkness closing in
Tried to be more than me
And I gave till it all went away
    And we've only surrendered
    To the worst part of
    these winters we've
    made

    I am all that I'll
    ever be
    When you - lay
    your hands
    over me
    but don't go weak
    on me now
    I know that it's
    weak
But God help me I need this
I will not sleep in this bed of lies

    (Acoustic #3)

    They painted up your secrets
With the lies they told you
And the least they ever gave you
Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming
    No one is listening anyway

Your voice is small and fading
And you hide in here unkown
And your mother loves your father
Cause she's got nowhere to go

And she wonders where these dreams go
Cause the world got in her way
Whats the point in ever trying
    Nothing's changing anyway

They press their lips against you
And you love the lies they say
And I tried so hard to reach you
    But you're falling anyway

And you know I see right through you
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming
    You're not listening anyway

Well, I saw a live performance of Dido's "white flag" (is that the right title?) and I was almost in tears.

And I also only recently heard the full length of Nickelback's "Someday". Goosebump time!

The ones that moves me the most are actually not lyrical pieces of music. I don't know if they'd classify as music then, but there are a few.

Elysium of gladiator would be one. One of the end sequences music from Braveheart too, forgot the name. (might be sons of scotland).

As for actual songs.. damn there's many. One of the most moving would be Unforgiven.. and Nothing Else Matters too.
