Foolish earthling to question Star Fleet like that. The red matter clearly does not increase geometrically in power when you dump loads of it out like that in an uncontrolled way. The gravitational field of each particle of red matter sucks in each of the other particles, neutralising all of its power, other than a brief unstable period that was shown in the movie. This is the reason why you only carefully use one drop into the core of the planet to suck up Vulcan rather than casually dumping a whole canister out.

It's pretty obvious for any of the SPers around here with doctorates in quantum physics (majoring in red matter).

I didn't like the feel of Spock's mom.

Otherwise, this was definitely one of the best Trek movies I've ever seen...

I don't think it's necessary to create the singularity in the centre of a planet. But since Nero controlled a futuristic mining vessel, he thought that doing this might add to the spectacle of planetary destruction. And why not? If you've got the toys, you might as well use them:D

Wasn't the mom Winona Ryder? God, what a mis-cast. I've never liked that woman. Not before her shoplifting escapade, not after, not ever. Looking back that's the only thing about the movie I didn't like.

Actually, that's not true. I didn't like the fact that the green chick didn't get more screen time and that we didn't see . . . more of her, if you get my drift. That girl is freaking beautiful. She buries the chick who played Uhura.

Wouldn't I look like a total dipstick if it turned out that was Winona in a dual role? I'd never be able to show my face (figuratively speaking) on SP again. Fortunately, I just IMDB'd the movie and found out the actress is Rachel Nichols. I'm starting a new religion based around her fabulous body. Any joiners?

[IMG] Considering the fast that her fabulous exotic body on Star Trek is, well, GREEN, I'd say you're in for a big disappointment when you see her in other movies...;)

I love Rachel Nichols, even though I completely did not recognize her. There were a lot of great J.J. Abrams cameo/references... a couple of actors from Alias that had brief parts (Rachel Nichols... and the woman who played Marshall's wife in Alias).

I utterly loathed this movie, it so wasnt Star Trek...and like what was with those pulse laser type weaponry the Enterprise had? Why no beam weapons?

And what was with that horrid storyline? Vulcan destroyed but its ok because they found a new planet?!?! I sure hope this isnt considered canon.

Overall a laughable attempt at extending the dying Star Trek franchise...and nearly everyone who left the theatre with me (ie people I dont know) said much the same. I even heard a few yelling loudly 'That was NOT Star Trek' or something similar. Definitely not Star Trek...

Check the spoiler in my first post, #15, for an explanation to all this. Personally, I'm curious to see how earth's Federation would do without technologically advanced Vulcan by their side... Maybe they wouldn't become such a major power, constantly giving in to demands of the larger neighbouring empires.

Seriously, you left the cinema?? Even if I thought it was a bad movie (overall reviews have been pretty positive) I wouldn't have walked away. It's the first Star Trek in years. If they had to outmatch that screwed up series Enterprise, then the bar wasn't exactly set very high;). At least it wasn't a lame story about the evil Kabul Taliban, sorry I mean Suliban Kabal, who forced a divided race to kill seven million people in Florida. Resulting in an enraged texan wanting to avenge his sister's death. Talk about a good franchise being hijacked by warhawks:sosad:.
