In general boys mature slower than girls. I was taught that girls have to mature faster and develop motherly responsibility. Boys don't have that kind of pressure, so they can still be rowdy and do dumb stuff well into their teen years.

Blog: Ya think wrong. I, for certain, are NOT going to perform any 'motherly duties'(screw 'em) and allowing boys to be rowdy and do dumb stuff, while girls aren't allowed is just plain discrimination. Oh well.

I am a dumb, sick, little bastard and I have fared pretty well, even if my mother is kinda fed up with the attitude. Sometimes I really hate my hormones.

*kneels and prays* Oh, good lord Buddha, Shiva, Zeus and all others, please make me immune to the idiodicy of boys and free me of this horror they call the ability to get preggers.

And god strike me down, if I am kiddin' here.

    *steps off soapbox*

    Honestly though, even though I'm fifteen, I have to admit that many "teenage boys" simply don't have brains!(mostly just the ones who don't play crpg's) lol. ;

Actually, Eze, it isn't a matter of permitted, but girls actually tend (stereotypically) to simply make better choices. I don't buy that stereotype, though. I've seen just as many teenage girls screw up their lives as teenage boys. The "attitude" that both genders can display is stunning, and aggravating to the extreme. I'm reminded of Sebastian's quote in "The Little Mermaid": "Teenagers: they think they know everything!"

As for pregnancy, your thesis seems to be that pregnancy is all the boy's fault. Now, unless there was a rape, it is kind of a 50 - 50 deal! Both of those involved have made a poor decision when an unplanned pregnancy occurs.

The boys who are bugging you, while they may be morons, have semi-valid reasons for what they do. They want to get your attention, as you are most likely different than many of the other girls around you (you read, do computers, etc, as opposed to what the other girls are probably doing, which is flirting with boys, wearing makeup, etc.) They don't understand you, so they want to interact with you in an effort to understand you. So, they are trying to get your attention. Now, boys tend to do silly things in their efforts to attract female attention. They hit the girl into her locker, they steal her stuff, they call her names, etc. They themselves couldn't articulate the fact that they are trying to understand you if their lives depended on it. So you have a few choices. You could talk to them, or ignore them completely-- once they see their efforts to get a reaction of some sort out of you are futile, they will move on to other things. You could also kill a few, but that has some really unpleasant legal consequences.

Heh, I doubt that any objective survey into the percentage of clinical morons among teenagers of two sexes would show other difference between the two sexes than a few random percents in whichever direction depending on the region or similar conditions effectively close to random from our point of view.

Another problem is what you see as dumb stuff and what your dumbness scale is. While at first glance it appears that the boys score better in this regard - mainly due to more aggressive attention craving (while girls as differently equipped by nature have developed different methods of craving attention), I cannot agree that talking about dolls is sillier than talking about action men or cars, that Robinson Crusoe is any sillier than Anne Shirley (ex aeuquo here :D ), that worshipping Britney Spears or Christina Aguillera is any wiser than football fads, that making mistakes and swearing is worse than spreading nonsense etc etc. Spending last money on idol-sweated shorts and on glittery lipsticks share one rung of the ladder of stupidity. Similarly soap operas aren't any more intellectual or spirited than wrestling competitions on TV. In my humble opinion the levels of Harlequines and Playboys are perfectly equal too. Also both genders of teenagers drink, smoke and rebel, so no real difference there as well.

In terms of genitals replacing brains in mental processes girls and boys are equal. Both have swelling palms and put fingers where they don't belong. Exactly the same applies to continous fighting. Generally boys go for brute force and straightforward manual reasoning while girls subtly work against one another. One hurt flesh, others hurt spirits. At least in my opinion both models are equally foolish, immature and destructive in their extremes.

Last but not least, I assure you that no human being is impressive in third person's eyes when attracted. If you have ever been attracted to a boy, you most probably presented yourself as just about as crazy as the guys attracted to you seem to you and spectators experienced a comparable level of enjoyment ;)

    :coffee:

@c'Jakob: of course I was in the thinking percentage. I'm no genious but I was half again as smart as the few non-retards among them, so I didn't really belong to the crowd. And no, I'm not going to bother argueing if anyone calls me an arrogant snob.

Teenage boys probabaly have brains. Somewhere. They just don't use them until they get older.

On the subject of teenage girls, their brains can get mangled, too. I can just look at some girls I know and merely shake my head in amazement how immaturely some people ca act.

I think that in cases such as myself, the fact that I have matured faster than those around me (Not bragging... stating facts.) tends to colour my views. I have considered boys my age (well, most of them anyway) hopelessly immature for years, and yet, looking back at myself at age 14, I want to go back to punch myself being a prat.

    Yes,

As teenagers, and adults, both sexes have plenty of members who are just dying to display just how awesomely stupid and immature they are. I'm sure Arabwel remembers a poster here named Shakrazj, who was promptly booted from this site, much to everybody's joy.

    The sad thing is ...

A few of the guys and gals I knew from junior and high school days really did grow up, and grew some sort of brain in the meantime. But for others, the odd time I've run into them, its like putting in a VCR tape from 12 years ago. Nothing has changed. Still loudmouthed, still macho, still stuck up, still "I'm in the clique for which the sun shines alone", still "being a man equals being an oversexed and brainless neanderthal". The odd time that I've run into them, it's a total mystery to them why I'm not desperately seeking friendship with them so that they can get the satisfaction of snubbing me. If they can't even figure that out ... they're doomed.

Speaking for myself, while not everything I did as a youngster I would pat myself on the back over, I had a mind and a brain as a teenager. By then, I can claimed to have read LOTR three times in its entirety. Not bragging, simple fact. I was the quiet, introspective type who even then thought about world issues, the meaning of life, and that sort of thing. I kept a close circle of loyal friends. It wasn't a "I'm too good for everybody else" thing. I was just overwhelmed by the awesome arrogance, brutality, and idiocy of the vast majority of other teenagers I knew. So ... I'm sure I'm not the only one who fitted this picture as a teenager. The point I guess I'm trying to make is ... there have always been and always will at least a few representatives from each gender who can claim to have minds of their own while teenagers.

    I have a brain  /
    I think
And I also read many books, keep in touch with world news, and take daily showers.

However, in my rl I am considered odd and antisocial, which might be somewhat true.
I prefer blaming this on my aversion of soccer though, which is inflating my ego, which can be seen as brainless behaviour.
I am 14, and have several female close friends, who I do not see as girlfriend-friends but just friend-friends.
I consider myself conscious and intelligent, and don't support the notion of my own brainlessness.
    obviously.

If you protest against such cathegories applied to you on some imaginary basis you're labelled as a 'typical male' - loudmouthed stud thinking he's the centre of the universe.

However, if you don't care and such babbling doesn't really bother you (or you learn to live with it) and so you promptly ignore it, you're declared arrogant, mean bastard such I for example - which in turn makes you one later on, but that's another story ;)

    Beren....
I was that, too, in the age of fourteen. But I STILL want to go kick myself. Because I was incerdibly stupid in other ways.

You know, what we THINK makes us have brains does not make us actually have them... it just makes us kind of... elitist. That is the word that has been applied to people such as Beren described lately, and I do not know if I should agree or not.

Are we claiming to have a brain or just being intellectually elitist? And thusly, have we been just another group of teenaged dumbarses who need a few good hits on the head?

Or am I just ramblineg becausre I have been mailing dumb letters by hand all day, I am caffeinarted, off my meds and haven't slept at all?

Elitist? It's an ugly word coined by people with inferiority complexes.

Depaara: I don't see WHAT is so special about me, that makes boys want to understand me. I am just your ordinary sick dumb little bastard, who just doesn't babble about boys.

Chevalier: I have committed no crimes you listed except for massive swearing and rebeling against authority figures. I'd better kill myself than buy make up or watch soap operas. They make me puke.

WHY isn't the murdering of teenage boys legal in Estonia? :D Well, it should be. Haha.

Elitist is actually a very good word. And it definitely has its uses. Thinking about how you're oh so special for actually having read some book a couple of times as a teenager, or because you've thought about the meaning of life and stuff, is indeed elitist. To understand that everyone else thinks in the same way, even if they don't give out their thoughts about it, that's true maturity. Simply being interested in literature (and especially fictional fantasy literature) doesn't make you a better person.

Actually, psychologically speaking, puberty is the first phase of "major" chrisis for any normal person. That is, afterall, where people start to search for their own identity. And the meaning of life, politics, what's going on about the world etc are all essential for such a person.

Put simple, when you feel it necessary to tell us that you are unique and more mentally developed than others *because* you read books and think about things, it clearly gives off the impression that you actually do all this because of your desire to be unique and more developed. Where's the maturity in that? Not to make a quarrel out of this. I'm just out to make a point.

Well I'm bored so let me write a little...

Normally boys and girls should be on the same evolution grade at the same age. That means that both genders should be under the same influence by their hormons(although it sometimes appears to me,that my little sister is the worst beast on earth, much worse than any boy could be :D )But I think the difference lies in the education, boys have another education than girls. It starts in the earlier years, boys play with Action Man and such stuff(wich are really only for fighting games),while girls are playing with puppets and barbies(and they often play this Family games). And theirs no escape in this system!Last week I saw a young mother with her young son in the shop, and she wanted to buy him a toy.Well,he wanted a barbie :D ,and he cried all the time because his mother didn't wanted to buy him one.So she frustrated bought him anything. The next time the boy for sure don't want a Barbie, because he learned,Barbies are for girls and I as Boy won't get one. When you grow up,this becomes even more intensive,of course nobody forbids a 13 year old boy to play with Barbies, but everybody will laugh at him and he will become an outsider. And I don't think anybody wants to be an outsider?
The typical 13year old boy is playing sports and computer, and he screams and hasn't such good manners, because his parents don't care as much about this as it would be a girl!So girls have to control themselves more than boys. And because of this it sometimes seems that girls are smarter than boys.
There is a good cartoon wich shows how you end when you try to escape the mainstream of girls,it's called Daria(it's sometimes a little extrem, but it's good anyway)

    (Whew,I think that's the longest post I ever wrote,I really earned a chocolate now :D )

Also, as a part of the system that ensures the human survival, females are more attracted to power. This leads to them often finding mates in males older than their normal social circle (classmates etc), for the age grants this male more power and authority than the female's age-equals. This and the fact that females are therefore "prohibited" from acting completely childishly should they wish to invoke an interest in this male, gives the impression that they are mentally more developed than an equally old male.

The whole age-issue is balanced later on in life as the relative difference of power relative to age is significantly reduced after the age of 20.

Foradasthar: agreed on the points that 'elitist' post. I still hate the word in the way it's applied - to which I could possibly get used to anyway. More than that I just hate the sound and the striking stupidity that mostly comes with this word in case of most speakers.

And I would raise that age limit in the post immediately above to 25 years. Just a feeling.

Sephirot: You must take my word on that I was a boy once ;) . Despite that, my education included manners. Up to this very day I've been acting as local savoir-vivre oracle more times than I could possibly remember. But, of course, that's why I'm a bloody elitist.

Foradasthar: It's true that artistic interest in its most common shape is no better than any other interest. I would rather stick to some artistic refinement criteria. However, reading anything promotes literacy and except the worthless commercialised ones actually develops mental and spiritual qualities. In the light of those facts it may be judged as better than action-man interest. Of course this doesn't stretch to include fantasy books prevailing over (c)RPG in this regard - or checking the news on internet services rather than newspapers (in which my mother tends to believe).
