Rubyne walks through the flames as she gets to the other side she sees that the corridor turns right as she looks down it it looks to turn left, but she can't see anything there - she can only hear a steady *thunk*... *thunk*... *thunk* of metal on stone, she gulps. What now?

 

"I wasn't expecting a tea-party," Rubyne thinks as she draws a deep breath and turns left.

 

Rubyne stealthily sneaked along the corridor and turned left - she stifled a scream as saw webs filled with what seemed to be the bodies of small children of varying races - many were half-breeds of some sort. She backed into the wall at the sound of the metal pounding on stone, several spiders scurried from behind her and ran towards the sound, a ridiculously large spider drew itself from the web and clicked ferociously. A large mechanical spider drew into her view, it's metallic legs clanging against the stone floor and walls. Rubyne hated technology.

"Why spiders? I'd give anything for it to be something else..."

 

Rubyne nearly (but fortunately doesn't) faints. She takes off running in the direction from whence she came from.

 

Rubyne flees around the corner through the flame jets and splat into the wall, dazed she looks around and notices a button - written above are the words 'To open the wall' written in serpantile writing - obviously snakes are friendlier than she though - first the pendant then the sign, she pressed the button and the wall dissolved she steped out merrily and checked the time on the large clock on the wall - she now has 35 minutes to go

 

Rubyne looks past the clock to see what's before her.

 

There is nothing in front of her except a balcony over the entrance hall. looking down there is the floor - Rubyne can see all the way across to the corridor on the other side of the building - which is were the clock is

Sort of like the Lara croft house really when I think about it

 

Rubyne looks down. One direction is fire; the other is a big robot spider. She guesses that the balcony is her best bet. She tries to guess whether she could take a fall from the balcony to the floor. If the distance is too far, she looks for a way to climb down.

 

She looks around and notices that basically - the whole floor is like a balcony around the perimiter of the house, she scans around the edge and notices a set of stairs leading downwards to the first floor she heads of towards them. she reaches them and runs down hesitantly looking back almost expecting to see the man again. she stops suddenly and looks down. What is she wearing?!?! She can't leave like this!

Figuring she has enough time, Rubyne runs back to the rooms, to get a nicer set of clothes, so she can look a tad bit more presentable when she's leaving the building of fire, talking snakes, and robot spiders.

 

Rubyne ducks into a nearby room - a normal room and pulls on her original uniform - she pockets the maids uniform though. She steps out of the house and runs... straight into a guard. She apologises squeakily before running along the street. She reaches a crossroad - she could either go down the market lane to steal some food, venture down the other road for a walk or head towards the slums and her home

 

Rubyne decides she's had enough adventure for one afternoon, and heads home to the slums to see what's there.

 

Rubyne sighs and saunter along the road until she comes to her house - it was just like a shed - but couldn't be called that as shed's don't have shimneys, however spindly they were. She pushed open the door and walked in - her parents were sitting by the fire - there was a guard with them.

 

Hoping that she didn't sound as shaky as she felt, Rubyne said "Hi, Mum, Hi Dad," and sauntered to a basket to look for an apple.

 

Rubyne opens her mouth to speak but it only comes out as: "Gurk..."

She watched as the guard shifted - she recognised his stance, he was prepared to draw his sword at any sign of dodgy behaviour - she tried to act natural. Her mother spoke.
"He is here to evict us from our house... and discuss some business. With Xzenick DeLyn."

 

"Um, who's Xzenick Delyn? A cousin of some sort?"

 

Rubyne smiled nervously "Xzenick DeLyn?" Her mother nodded "Yes - the man from the mansion down the road in the wealthy part of town. He's taken over now his fathers... disappeared." Rubyne felt herself pale. If she was hearing correctly she may have already met him.
"What... sort of business?" Her father shook his head sadly
"This we do not know." The guard coughed
"You need to meet him tomorrow morning - any later and he'll make sure that you have nothing within this town." Rubyne gulped, what now?

 

Rubyne bites her lip and nods. Perhaps she can find someone to disguise her as someone else, or even hire a wizard (assuming such people exist in this universe) to put a glamer on her.

 

Rubyne ponders the situation - and ponders on the idea of disguise. She could probably let her hair down and perhaps put make up on - even wear a cloak to hide her face. It might just work - the Wizards always wanted paying with non-existent money within their household

 

As she prepares her disguise, Rubyne slips the pearls she had taken from the mansion into an inside pocket of her tunic.
