The Midnight Club

The snow fell thick and fast on the frozen island of Xanzets, the land where it is cold enough to freeze time and create surrounding islands of pure ice, only a few wander around the desolate terrain divided by a ridge of mountais running from the very east to very west of the island with frost hardened trees decorating the slopes. Centuries ago the cursed people were shunned from their own towns and fled to the lonely place, few survived and each kept to themselves without companions for fear of harming them and no possessions for lack of need.

The people were the Lycanthropes, several decades ago they formed groups of which each were a certain animal, there Werecats kept to the middle of the woods and forests and made homes within the trees, the Wererats burrowed deep underground into the mountain range where they chanced upon a small, yet warm, river flowing through, Werebadgers made burrow homes half above and under the ground, Wearbears continued to wonder as a group and the werewolves built tents and small villages on the frozen ground upon the edge of the forests. Each feared the time of the year when the moon would hover full above the land turning them all into destructive beats unable to control themselves, Human by day and usually controllable by night - this was the only time they feared.

But something had changed - for the worse, Nintel was an Elfen Lycanthrope - one of very few, she set up the Midnight club, tonight was there meeting in the clearing in the hill. she stood on the edge of the village - she was nervous, she couldn't decide whether or not to follow the trail to her meeting.

Help her guys

Oh, well, here goes.

Nintel does her best to look normal as possible, and follows the trail to the meeting.

(By the way, of what animal is Nintel a Lycanthrope of?)

 

Nintel brushed her white hair behind her ears, she lloked around the people were busy - though she could see they were nervous, they all had pale skin and hair and grey eyes, she starts off down the trail occaisonally looking back - she could sense something was wrong, she picked up her pace and began the winding trail through the woods - it was especially cold, she stepped on a leaf that had frozen and it shattered like glass. She shivered and continued slightly slower. She heard a howling up ahead ther was a large black wolf up ahead, his red eyes gleaming in the winter haze, it was standing on a rock watching her with curiosity, it was a were-beast as was for certain, it was whining and glancing around as if unsure what to do, Nintel approached slowly before she felt a slight pain - the creature was standing on a rock of solid silver - and wasn't fleeing! Nintel hesitated, obviously times were worse than she thought.

Nintel nodded her respect to the wolf and continued past it to the meeting, skirting the silver rock as narrowly as possible to harm neither her body nor her pride.

 

She continued down the path and flinched as a high pitched howl pierced the silent air, she turned back and saw the wolf collapse off the stone and limp away sadly, Nintel shuddered, nothing like this had ever happened before, she would have to get her group together and investigate.

Nintel continued along until she reached the clearing - a small wooden hut was there with a small campfire outside. Her old friend Groden was there, he was rather large and had large bushy eyebrows eand a black streak through his hair - otherwise the normal appearence for a Lycanthrope.
"Nintel - you finally turned up, they are waiting for you inside, we better hurry. Time is running out." She nodded and was about to follow when she found she was hesitating - what if whatever effected the wolf effected them? What if they had laid a trap for her, perhaps she was just being paranoid...

 

Nintel waits to Groden to head inside first. She decides she'll go into the hut after he goes first.

 

Nintel watches as Groden opens the door and steps in, he turns around angrily
"You coming in or what?" Nintel shook her head, of course, she was just being silly, obviously the troubled times were getting to her.

She stepped into the hut, there was a fire inside setting a nice glow over them all, the place was almost considered wealthy by Xanzetzian standards, it had a rickety wooden chair, two armchairs and a stool, placed on a ragged rug in front of the small fire. It was one of the few permanent building around. The wind howled through the windows eerily. Nintel turnde to her company, Groden had sat in his armchair and stared grumpily into the fire, there were four others in the room - the rest of the club. Nintel frowned slightly
"There is someone missing... where is Surrel?" a harsh voice came from the shadows behind her
"I am here, Nintel" she turned to the person cowering in the shadows, he flashed her a yellow-toothed grin before attempting to stand upright and move into the light, his eyes flickered towards the second arm chair and he wrinkled his nose in disgust. Nintel sighed
"While we are all here we are not seperate typed - we are all Lycanthropes, that get along, we are in human form - we don't need to worry about our animal forms." Surrel sagged a bit and nodded, the person in the armchair nodded
"Sorry, Surrel, you know what it's like." Surrel sneered and sat on the rug in a sulk.
"The recent happenings have put everyone on edge, Surrel never used to mind Firga. I suppose everyone has become unpredictable." A tall man leaning against the fire snorted, he had a large beard and seemed very powerful - his voice was booming and awe inspiring.
"It is not just that - there is less food, even the animals are fleeing the island to the Ice Rink Isles in the West." Nintel sighed - the last person, Thralla, spoke
"He is correct, not only that but several of my kind have been drawn to the large silver rocks that have began to emerge on the surface." Nintel flinched remembering the wolf she saw earlier. Surrel sneered "The river under the mountains is no longer as warm as it used to be, if it gets any colder we may have to move out onto the surface - there is already a sure amount less of us" - he glared at firga accusingly. Nintel interrupeted into the possible argument
"There is a great deal less of all of us - it is up to us to solve the problems here..." There was a knock at the door.

 

Nintel turns toward the door and opens it enough to see who's at the door.

 

Nintel edged hesitantly to the door and opened it slightly a hoard of rats scurried through and hid in the shadows, there was a tall, thin figure bahind them, he leant on the doorframe - his eyes were bloodshot and bulging from their sockets while he looked very pale and weak, he collapsed onto Nintel almost making her fall over, Boren (The guy by the fire - forgot to put his name ) came and picked him up - he was dead. With a silver dagger in his back, nintel reached forward and pulled at it though had to draw her hand back revealing a light burn on it. She looked panicky
"What should we do with it?" Thralla stepped forward
"I vote we throw it outside for the wolves - they are hungry." Firga snorted
"And feed the creatures mad with hunger so they are strengthened? I say into the sea with it." Groden grunted as he raised out of the chair
"Take it out and bury it, it'll go into the ground and feed the trees." Boren nodded in agreement. Surrel snarled at them
"Don't you see? Can't you hear?" They looked at him silently "Can't you hear what they are telling us? The rats? It is theirs... their kill. But they didn't mean to. He only has died in these last few minutes - it is here to turn us upon another!" They all turned to Nintel. Obviously they relied on her to sort this one out.

 

Nintel sighed and went back inside. She asked Boren to bury the body and started telling the others what she had heard yesterday.

 

Boren went outside to bury the body with Groden.

(What had Nintel heard yesterday? )
